New ALPINA B3S Biturbo to be released - N54 with 400hp / 540 Nm torque
ALPINA has made it known that they will present an upgraded version of their 3 series model B3 Biturbo, now called B3 S Biturbo but still featuring the N54 biturbo engine (not the N55 that is now installed in the 335i). Apparently the boost has been raised some more in order to obtain 400hp at the flywheel (before: 360), torque has been raised to 540Nm at the flywheel (before: 500); no additional technical details are known for the time being, but rumours have it that at least a bigger oil cooler (offered as an option on the current B3) is installed from the factory.
The new B3S Biturbo can be ordered starting 15 February 2010, delivery July 2010. The official presentation will be made on the Geneva fair. The following data has been leaked: 400 hp @ 6000/min - 540 Nm @ 4500/min Vmax - l/100km - CO2 g/km (xi in brackets)
EDIT: Here's a bigger photo of the B7 wheels, the new ones for the B3S will look identical: Alpina_B3_Lux

Quite laughable that the new N55 engine is suppose to have the same output as the N54 and yet they make performance models like the 335is model and the Alpina using the N54 engine....

I forgot to mention that also new 19" Classic rims will be available, similar to those that the current B7 is equipped with. Alpina_B3_Lux

Yea, everytime I see BMW releasing stuff with more power on our engine with basically the same stuff (+ some added cooling) it makes me feel good about our turbos and engines.

Man, I wish we could get more Alpina models in the U.S. I would get rid of my E90 335i for an E91 B3 S in a heartbeart if it was availible here.

What's wrong with Dinan Stage 3 ? I think it actually costs less and the power is the same (408hp)...

The n54 is tried and true. Don't think for one minute that Alpina doesn't know about the aftermarket tuning (and it's success) around this engine.

Does anyone know if this Alpina will use the same automatic transmission as run of the mill n54 powered E9Xs?

Oh I am well aware of it since all these new performance models coming out by BMW is with the N54 engine...I am very happy to own a 335 with the N54, just hope the future the 943 HPFP is the real deal fix with those inherent fuel pump failures...The N54 will be a true enthusiast engine once they no longer produce them anymore, and it seems as though car manufacturers are more geared towards efficiency and less green house effect that the future engines will be compromised with performance for efficiency!

Where is the picture mentioned in the text of your post? Does it show the new wheel style on a 335?
I want these wheels! http://wot.motortrend.com/6607909/auto-shows/2010-chicago-2011-alpina-b7-sports-some-slick-wheels/index.html Last edited by Mantooth; 02-16-2010 at 10:25 PM.. |

I am sort of please that they are not doing the new classic design for the 18" alloy design, as my winter set of classic's have arrived last week. I would not be too pleased to say the least if they were. Last edited by Estoril Sport; 02-21-2010 at 01:23 PM.. |

Two photos of the new B3S Biturbo from the ALPINA stand at the Geneva show (the new rims look great IMO):
