Reccomended tyres for xDrive non-staggering.

Hello

i'm looking for new tyres in dimension 225/45/R18 non steggering. How important is to have bmw spect (star, star and RFT) tyres for such arrangement.

I would like to get Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 (summer), but im worried taht i would cause damnage to transfer case, cose that tyres are not bmw spect and also non RFT.

So far i had Bridgestone Turanza T005 star and RFT. Great tyres, had no problems with them, but they are less comfortable because of RTF.

The other option to get is Michellin pilot sport 5 which i can get bmw spect.

Thank you for the anwers.

Gregor

Your tires do not have to be BMW specific at all. They just have to fit your wheels correctly. I would also not recommend RFT they just suck

Runflats reduce comfort and performance due to stiffer sidewall. You can absolutely run square non-RFT on your X-Drive as long as the diameter is 26" (27" on F34). You can damage transfer case by using staggered tires that have more than 1% diameter difference between front and rear. Since you are going square you don't have to worry about that.

consider increase from 225/45/18(26.0") to 235/45/18(26.3"). 235/45/18 fits 18x8" width better, provides more grip, better ride comfort and impact protection, reduces fenderwell gap and fills the wheel well nicer. here's a thread with an example.

if you are not comfortable with this size upgrade, stay with OEM size

for summer tire brand and model:
michelin pilot sport 4s or equivalent n slovenia
continental extremecontact sport 02 or equivalent in slovenia

If you are putting four identical tires on your car, a “square” configuration, you have no concerns at all about damaging your XDrive. There is only a concern in “staggered” configurations where the front and rear tires are different sizes.

Definitely take the advice of Alohasurftoad and get the larger 235/45-18 tire size. It will handle better and be more comfortable.

I’ve been extremely pleased with my Continental DWS06 plus. Ditching the run flats and putting these on is probably the best thing I have done to the car!
