Error Code - P16B7

Anyone know what the deal is with P16B7. Diagnosing for a friend and he only has an ODB2 scanner (no BT cable).

It's in german on this thread. You just need someone to translate:

"P16B7 Eigendiagnose Motorsteuergerät - Überwachung Wandlerüberbrückungskupplung - Kabelbaum, Motorsteuergerät"

Eigendiagnose Motorsteuergerät = DME self-diagnosis (meaning the DME self-diagnosed something)

Überwachung Wandlerüberbrückungskupplung = monitoring system for the torque converter clutch

Kabelbaum, Motorsteuergerät = wiring harness, DME

I guess it means that the DME self-diagnosed a problem with the torque converter clutch. However, there are more technically gifted people on that forum, so they may know better what to make of this error code.

EDIT: Just saw the last sentence with a similar error code: "The P16B8 means Selfdiagnose ECU - check Torque converter clutch - Failure in cabeling ECU"

thanks Alpina,

So it sounds like the ECU is not performing an internal calibration or error check properly? The car is a 6MT, is there a torque converter clutch? The error code is registered at WOT.

I did some quick research in the German part of Google and some car forums. The torque converter clutch is something that can only be found in automatic transmissions. If you get this code with a 6MT (like my own...) then IMO (others may chime in here as I do not pretend to any technical knowledge) either (i) something is fundamentally wrong with the programming of the DME or (ii) this error code has another meaning with manual transmission cars (for example that the clutch is slipping due to the high torque).

Anybody find out what this code means? I'm getting it on an E90 M3 LCI, but only in cooler temperatures (<10C) and only under WOT....

the code was due to a performance flash triggering the torque control limits on the msd81 ecu
