whose download did you use.
It's recommended you use the Bimmergeeks.net
download since we know it works and the steps it
takes to get it up and going.

Can you do anything in inpa? When you see vin is faulty error it's a communication problem not a software problem. If you have a switch on the cable make sure it's pinned correctly. Could be faulty cable now. Go into ediabas.ini and make sure it says com port 1

Does it work on the other laptop right now? If it worked last week and not working now it could be the cable, check the other laptop if it works today if possible to rule out the cable and if you've already tried that today or yesterday then we've ruled out the cable. Try re installing standard tools, I know this seems annoying but the bimmergeeks download is so quick and simple. What you NEED to do before installing though is navigate to add/remove programs in control panel, find the standard tools download in the list and uninstall it completely. If you skip this step you'll run into issues later installing the bimmergeeks install. Once it's removed, go to bimmergeeks.net/downloads and download standard tools. With a decently quick laptop you can get it all set up in 10-15 minutes. The install instructions are very detailed. Once that's done try it out.

Mikes easy and standard tools is the same thing. Make sure to uninstall it from add/remove programs so it won't conflict with your new install

Both INPA and NCS Dummy will "Open" with NO cable connected to laptop, or Cable connection to OBD II Socket, IF your installation is NOT corrupted somehow.

1) What happens when you open INPA with NO cable connected to USB port?
2) If you get "BMW INPA" screen (as you should) press Function Key for E90 (F6 in Mike's?) key varies depending upon source of your program;
3) Do you now get Script Selection Box, and can you navigate Functional Jobs, and ALL Modules?

Open NCS Dummy, and see if you can see Options for a specific module such as CAS. If it was properly setup, you should see "Chassis: E89..." Same idea -- you should have some functionality even NOT connected to Cable or OBD II Socket.

If NEITHER is now working, but BOTH did before today, make sure you simply try re-booting/ Restarting your computer. Think about anything that was added or deleted on the C Drive since it last worked.

If it does NOT work as described above, then likely your installation has become corrupted in some fashion. Check to see that you have "EC-APPS" folder in your Root/C: Drive and that it contains "INPA" and "NCS" folders. Check/report SIZE of each of those two folders.
