My wife and I hid Easter eggs for the grand kids this week during or ski trip since we won't be seeing them on Easter Sunday. We hid them around the house but not outside (too much snow). I thought for sure we would remember where we put them. We counted to make sure the grand kids found them all. We were two short. Neither my wife nor I could find the missing eggs. We had literally just hid them 30 minutes earlier.

We eventually found them but the reality is our short term memory is affected by age. However, I can still remember my teachers' names in grade school.

My short term memory can't realistically be called "memory." I'll walk into a room and think, "I need to do [fill in the blank] before I leave this room," and then walk out of the room 2 minutes later without having done it.

When I was in the Navy we had a guy try to sneak a Hawaiian pineapple back into San Diego. He stuffed it in the back of one of the cabinets and forgot about it. After a month or so there was a foul odor coming from that part of the space. After a few days the pineapple, or what was left of it, was discouvered. It had pretty much turned into pineapple juice and he had to clean up the mess. Fortunately, nothing of any importance was damaged.

When I was a Cub Scout back in the 1950s one of my tasks was to learn to identify cars by make and model. I sort of became obsessed. My dad was a car guy and he helped me learn the subtle differences between makes, models, and years. Every September or October, the new model years would be unveiled by the car companies.

77 Sunset Strip debuted while my family was living overseas, and we kids found it totally fascinating when we returned in '59 to live in the Bay Area.

Prior to leaving the States we'd lived in Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana and knew basically nothing about LA and SoCal car culture. We thought the program was pretty cool.

Thanks to The Google, I can tell you the car is a 1922 Ford T-Bucket hot rod. Kookies full name in the show was Gerald Lloyd "Kookie" Kookson III.

I was 10 when you got your DL. Must've been a blast seeing the Doors at the Whiskey. Big fan of Stevie Wonder and Buffalo Springfield as well. Lucky you.

I was at the Whiskey too; saw Van Halen there in the 70s and Mötley Crüe in the 80s.

Did you know Buffalo Springfield's song "For What it's Worth" was about the Sunset Strip curfew riots? Of course the riots were a little before my time but I used to hang out there, and Hollywood blvd. as a teenager. Wild and exciting times for sure.

That 6 year difference was huge in terms of music. I loved 70s music too. I did know For What it's Worth was written about the Strip curfew. I was there at that time. I never saw riots but did see increased police presence and some clubs couldn't let kids under 21 in anymore. We moved to the Hullabaloo Club at the other end of Sunset. The Strip changed and not for the better after that. I quit going in '67 when I met my first long-term girlfriend. We are still together!
