1200 Mi. Service Mid ED Trip

Hey all,

Wondering if there's any general advice for people taking longer road trips for Euro Delivery who will cross the 1200 mile threshold partway through.

I'm slating my trip to be in Berlin by about that point.

I'm doing my ED in September and scheduled to do my 1200 mile service in Bonn. This dealership was the closest one to Nürburg that I found could handle the service.

What I did was to email the Dealership asking them if they could do the 1200 mile service and if they had an English speaking SA. I just wrote my email in English and used Google translate to convert it.

I got a response the next day with the affirmation that they could do my service. I just sent them another email to confirm that they will have the replacement differential and oil plug available.

Thanks for the advice. I'll find one in the area and hit them up.

I heard that you have to pay for it out of pocket since we have North american warranties.

Also, FYI the car will alert you how far past the 1200 mark you have gone at start-up but it doesn't stay on and annoy you.

This is true, but BMWNA will reimburse you as a "good-faith" gesture.

Sorry to bother again, but how did you find a dealership that could handle the service?

No bother. That's what we are here for (at least some of us). I googled BMW dealers near where I knew our 1200 miles would be during our itinerary. Then blast them with an email requesting an appointment on the date you anticipate being there.

They will usually respond in a day.

I will be doing the same, haven't exactly seen where I'll be for the Service time. I'll porbably be heading back to Munich from Rome.........So maybe somewhere around Florence or around there. I asked my sales guy how does this work and below was his response.

Here are the directions for servicing your car in Euro.

“Your customer will need to arrange for an appointment at an authorized BMW Center and pay for his service out of pocket. Please have him save his invoice as he will be reimbursed for the cost upon his return to the United States.

Once the customer has provided you with the invoice your service department will be able to assist you in completing the below process.

Please enter the reimbursement claim using defect code 85990088WR with a sublet code 4 and the dollar amount charged for the service at the converted rate of exchange shown on the customer’s credit card statement or if paid in cash at the exchange rate for the date shown on the customers invoice.

Please note in the comment section European Delivery reimbursement for 1200 mile service performed while in Europe.

You will also need to send the claim to your market team for goodwill authorization.

Please retain a copy of the original invoice / repair order for the 1200 mile service and copy of the customer’s credit card statement / cash receipt with their repair order.”

I am presently sitting at the dealer in Dijon waiting for my car to be serviced.

My advice, book your appointment ahead of time to ensure they have a slot for you and insist that they have the parts in stock. I had booked an appointment with another dealer and sadly they did not have the oil pan screws when I showed up. So I had to overrun the 2000km mark for the first service.

Thank you to BMW Savy 21 in Dijon for accommodating me without an appointment .

I haven't been able to get the dealer to contact me back. Are you using their web contact form or emailing someone directly?
