Questions about 2014 M5 and/or Competition Package?
Will be attending a BMW M event soon and should hopefully have a chance to ask about the 2014 M5 and Competition Package.
Please post your questions and I'll see what I can get answered. Thanks.

Are the M differential "tune" and MDM software updates going to be available to upgrade pre-LCI M5's?
Is the 15hp improvement only attributable to the new sport exhaust or is it also ECU software improvements? |

Here's the very first one you should ask Jason:
Why didn't BMW redesign the front seat airbag system in the 2014 LCI M5 so that it could be federalized by the U.S. government to "re"-include adjustable sidebolsters into the front seats when the American market screamed about it last year? Question 2: What are exact and specific changes they made to the steering of the M5 with the new Competition Package and how does it make the M5 "feel"? Question 3: Exactly how much lighter are the Competition Package Wheels compared to the Style 343 20" Wheels? Question 4: What other changes, if any, were made to the interior styling of the 2014 LCI M5 besides the new silver bars on both sides of the iDrive screen? Afterall the LCI E60 M5 had many changes to the interior styling. That's all I can think of for now.

^ yes
Quote " ... At the same time, the developers at BMW M GmbH have applied extensive modifications to the chassis set-up. Along with the suspension and damping systems, the stabiliser bars have also been more tautly tuned. In the BMW M5 this adjustment has resulted in a lowering of the car by around 10 millimetres. The potential inherent in the rear axle design – based on the race-derived principle of the rear axle subframe being bolted to the body – and the even more precisely calculated elastokinematics for the front axle are exploited to the full in the models featuring the Competition Package, with the aim of enhancing driving precision ..." Is the entire mention above complete as regards the chassis set up modification, all physical parts (ie without software updates) which can be adopted in the 2013 M5? |

Is the mention above complete as regards steering feel change, and only a programming update that can be retrofitted? |

Quote "The Active M Differential on the final drive – standard on all models – is also issued with its own control unit in conjunction with the Competition Package. In combination with the modified set-up for the suspension, damping and stabiliser bars, this results in further improved traction. "
Is there any change to the M Differential? ie can M please elaborate in detail on all the LCI changes made, whether they are physical parts only or a combination with software, and as queried by others, whether all can be retrofitted; and if not, which can and which can't. Thanks. |

I would be curios if the sport exhaust is the same as the exhaust they have begun offerring - which I believe is made by Ak.

That is already available. There are several members on this board that have it. It's a special order from BMW Individual and changes the leather option price from $5000 to $6875.

A BMW quote: "And if that is still not enough: in combination with the Competition Package, the power of the M TwinPower Turbo V8 petrol engine rises to an impressive 575 hp (423 kW) thanks to increased boost pressure in the upper rev range – and all of this with constant fuel consumption. Here the maximum torque of 680 Nm is available over a rev range from 1,500 to 6,000 1/min. Figures that simply have to be experienced".
