Wifi Tethering
My 2013 328i xDrive Sport doesn't have wifi tethering but event current 2017 F30 LCI doesn't have this useful feature which you can find on all current Honda Civic.
Everyone nowadays have a data plan on their phones so why not include wifi tethering as standard feature so that you can always get internet connectivity? Why BMW doesn't provide this feature? so that people can pay for 4G connectivity through Connected Drive subscription? |

For example, even the most recent Apple iPhone does not have a phone that operates on all the current bands and (for example) 1 model works with Verizon, ATT and TMobile while a different phone model operates with Sprint. Here is a 2015 link and there have since been new bands activated by some networks since then not listed http://www.droid-life.com/2015/02/05...print-tmobile/ Besides, If BMW thought they could make money on it, of course they would do it. But perhaps BMW owners are a different breed than Honda owners? So as tex2670 stated, why bother? |

What I want to see if it has not happened on the new models is for iDrive to connect to my phone's hotspot.
And integrate Android Auto/CarPlay would be better. Current ConnectedDrive Apps are a joke.... a cruel one. |

Chevy had a TV add promoting their in-car wifi. One of the "not an actors" reacted with "This is the dream." Perhaps Civic drivers believe the same way. I'll pass.

The only use I could see is the kids could stream Netflix to their tablets during road trips. My guess is BMW typically doesn't offer it, since it burns through data. In my F30, it came with "free" connectivity for a staggered period of time (1 year for the connected apps, 3 for traffic, etc).
BMW would have to be footing the data bill back to the cellular carrier (whoever they are piggybacking on) though. GM just gives to x months or x data (whichever comes first) of connected wifi. |

I get connectedrive for free for 4 years I think, but my car doesn't have wifi so not sure if that's included or it's extra charge for cars that have it. BMW uses AT&T which blows. I prefer Verizon.

You don't need to have the wifi option to send directions to car for example, just connected drive. You can check what options are available and/or active for your car at bmw's connected drive website. Also a way to pay to activate them of course.
