I reset the codes and it came back and went into limp mode again. Looks like this cam sensor issue needs to be addressed. Anybody know if replacing the sensor will typically resolve the issue?

It appears the exhaust and intake cam sensors are the same. Try swapping them and see if the code follows the sensor. If it doesn't, swap the VANOS solenoids and try again.

Also I would try cleaning your VANOS solenoids. Sometimes VANOS problems can show up as other things.

I'll try that, thanks for the idea

I wonder if the motor oil is gasoline contaminated from when the injectors were leaking. I used to have problems all the time with the VANOS solenoids sticking. Finally I started ignoring the CPU's engine oil change reminders and changed every 3k miles. They stopped sticking after that, but lots of gas in the oil might cause it to happen again.

Sensor part number 13627525014 - made by Siemens / VDO

Also had a P2A9F (Outlet camshaft synchronization) code once

That is also a good thought. It would be worthwhile draining your oil and sending in a sample for analysis to Blackstone. If the oil is too thin it is conceivable that this would cause VANOS and cam timing issues.

Looks like you have plenty of things to go try. Please post back when you have feedback.

Also do you have any logs? If you have the ability to log, get some with lambda, STFT, and LTFT for both banks among the usual things during normal driving with some idle in there.

logs are on the first page. looks like bank 2 injectors aren't responding well, so I have a new set on order.

I had an extra pair of solenoids so I let them soak in gasoline for a while. Then I dipped them in transmission fluid and installed them.

Then I changed oil (even though it only had 2000 miles on it). The oil's viscosity looked low the way it flowed and had a strong smell.

I also swapped the camshaft sensors around while I was at it.

Then I installed three new injectors on bank 2 and coded them.

I drove it around a little and didn't seem to have a stumbling problem yet. I'll drive it farther tomorrow and see what happens. I'll have to get a new log recorded too I suppose.

Too bad you did everything at once, would have been nice to pinpoint the issue.

Can you snap some pictures of your old injectors? I would like to see the tips, thats usually a good sign if they were leaking.

the engine stumbled again today and then it went into limp mode again.

This time the code was on the intake side, where I moved the suspect sensor. Looks like it is time to replace this sensor.
