How much power can a 320xi Tranny Hold?
BMW Community,
I have been considering building out my N20 motor (Forged Internals, bigger Turbo, and full supporting Mods) and I want to know if the Transmission (Automatic)/Drivetrain will be able to hold the 400-500hp that I will hopefully be putting out. I know it is dumb to build an N20, but im looking for an original build of my own. I heard that the 3 series line all has the same Auto as the 335i. Is this true? Thanks! |

Here is a good read on this discussion for the tranny: http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=999242
But seems like some others that have used the 8HP45 box have been safe around the 500 to 550NM TRQ mark. But for us in the 20 and 28I should get the 335I flash for the tranny at minimum. The trannys are underrated as are our engines. ZF trannys have been very robust and usually handle close to double what is marked. But for how long and how hard you drive is the determining factor!
