Clutch replace / change for automatic
Hi all,
I need another opinion on what to do? I own a F30 LCI with B48 engine with 50k mileage and has manual transmission and clutch judder started to appear, to replace the DMF and clutch costs me 1.3k but now I was wondering if should I change the car for same engine but with Automatic gearbox(higher mileage around 100k) I would have to pay other 2k to change the car. (Not looking for a 6 pot). What would you do? Thanks |

I don't mean to be rude but why would you do this? Your easiest option is to sell the manual and buy an automatic. Or go back to the shop that could not fix the shudder and have them do it right. Conversion is a pita - the driveshaft, torque converter, changes to the cam shaft etc aren't "easy" even when a shop is doing it.
But hey, if you do this, please update here! |

Aaah I didn't read it that's way. I thought he was doing a conversion which I thought was odd. But what you say does make sense!

50k is low miles to need a clutch, unless it's been abused. My E36 M3 isn't driven regularly and judders/chatters after sitting for weeks. It clears up if I drive it daily. You might try lightly abusing the clutch to see if it clears up.....2nd gear starts with gusto, downshifting that raises engine speed wipes the disc/flywheel in the opposite direction. You want the clutch to slip more than normal to clean up the contact surfaces. Make sure you don't have a broken trans or engine mount before you commit to a new clutch.

I'd choose a manual over an auto any day of the week. However OP doesn't seem like he's a die hard manual guy. Which is fine. OP, you said your not looking for a 6 pot. Have you found a lower priced model since you started the thread? |
