Jc05e46m3's YMB/SO Build Journal
My car is sitting at the VPC in Oxnard, CA, so I decided to be just like @Money2536 and start my F82 M4 Journal. I never did journals for my E46 or E92, so I figure maybe it's time.
I live in Southern California, having moved here in October of 2013 for a new military assignment. It's been culture shock to me how expensive the cost of living is out here (in comparison with where I grew up in southeastern GA), but conversely, the car scene is literally 100x that of anywhere on the East Coast that I have been. Living just a couple minutes from places like HRE, HG Motorsports, and TAG Motorsports and then roughly an hour from EAS, VMR, Vorsteiner, BMS, etc., I am incredibly lucky to have reached the epicenter of the best of the best of the major suppliers to the market. Now if only I could get iND, AUTOcouture, BW and Turner to follow suit . I don't exactly have a sob story since my life has been far from bad, but anyway, I grew up almost equidistant between Savannah, GA and Jacksonville, FL in a small town and a not-so-good neighborhood. My father was a career Marine and my mother was civil service while there. Neither went to college, but definitely gave me literally everything they possibly could while leaving nothing to themselves to show for themselves. They taught me fiscal responsibility and how to work hard for what I wanted. That being said, I purchased and drove a used Honda (from them) through high school and my time at Annapolis. It ended up getting most of my $$ and was turbocharged among plenty of other things. Nearing graduation, I decided it was time for something more reliable. I was set on the new '09 Accord Coupe V6 after a test drive, but couldn't stomach the new car price. Later that day, I saw a newly commissioned officer with an incredibly attractive girlfriend driving an E46 IR/Black M3 vert and remembered when I saw an LSB M3 at BMW of Jacksonville back in 2001 and was instantly hooked. I began my search and after looking at 9 different cars, I blew some of my "career starter loan" (which was a really great deal with $32.5k at 0.5% interest) and jumped into a 2005 E46 TiAg/IR that with about 6 months left of warranty and with only H&R sport springs. Three years and a couple E46 specific issues later, I decided to make a change. After saving money on two deployments, I ended up ordering an AW/FR E92 M3 to reward myself. Now, two years and another deployment later, I got reassigned to SD and absolutely love it here. I decided it was time for another change and was dead set on throwing an ESS kit on my E92, but continued the quarter-life crisis by ordering a F82 M4 in YMB/SO. I was very fortunate to earn an appointment to the Naval Academy and with some academic struggle and perseverance, I was able to attend and graduate from Annapolis with a BSME. Similar to Money2536, my DNA is "Engineer." ((but maybe not as extreme)) Anyway, please don't take offense from my sarcasm or how high-strung I can be at times. It's never personal . Anyway, Here are the details of the F82: 2015 M4 Coupe Yas Marina Blue Metallic Sakhir Orange/Black Extended Merino Leather Executive Package Lighting Package 19" Black Light-Alloy Wheel Double-SpokeStyle 437M Adaptive M Suspension Manual Transmission Enhanced USB Harman Kardon Surround Sound System Destination & Handling I received $3,000 off MSRP from my dealer (including my $1K USAA discount) My thoughts/opinions on options: -My E92 was to Alpine White/Fox Red, so I opted to change things up completely, but continue the "red" leather trend. -I didn't get full leather. In anything other than SO, I think it is a must, but I hated how the red came up onto the dash on the passenger side (similar to the extended FR in the E92 which I also didn't like). -LED lights. Just like Money's thoughts, I don't care as much about the headlights as I do the angel eyes (I upgraded both my E46 and E92). They look years better than the standard, so I got the package. -Black Wheels. I'll probably go aftermarket, but wanted the black trend. -Manual Transmission. Enough said. -HK. I added it. I'm sure I won't love it, but for $875, I figured that was much better than the ~$1900 price point of the E92. -Cameras. Just more stuff to break. I hope my passion and love for these cars might help others feel better about themselves or show to their gfs and wives and say, "Look babe, this guy is way worse than me!!!". I'm Jason, I'm 27, and I'm incredibly blessed and humbled to be here.

Awesome Jason! I wanted to move to San Diego after college, but I chickened out and stayed on the East Coast moving to Orlando. I'd bet you end up staying there long-term. I know I would.
Doing the Journal on my 911 has been a lot of fun. I still can't believe the response I get from it. It's just nice to have an account of my ownership all in one place. I'm excited to make my M3 Journal similar. |

Good for you Jason, good for you. I read your OP and was really impressed. You seem to be headed for greatness not only in your car life but in your personal life as well.
That E46 is just gorgeous. By far my favorite of all M cars (well except for mine, of course!) Keep us posted. I think you already posted on my journal as well and thank you for that.

Definitely write up a review of how you feel the M4 vs the E92 M3
Always love reading reviews of previous M3 owners to the new M4
