32k miles Original battery Mostly garaged for last three years Although I use a CTEK Lithium charger, I don't ever leave it connected. Instead, I top it off every couple of days to let the battery cycle from lower charge levels. It's more work for me to manually recharge it at least once per week, but I've read that can be better for battery health than having a tender maintain the charge level between 90-95% for weeks or months. Either way, so far so good. |

Mine is a 2016 M3C garage Queen with 14,000 km. I insure it year round and I try to drive it every few weeks during the winter when weather permits to warm up the fluids and keep the tires from flat spotting. About every three weeks I put the CTEK charger on. No problems to date with the battery. I asked my service tech about battery life last service and he stated that he had encountered no problems with the F80/F82 generation to date. Coming up to 8 years and it does make me nervous as I usually do a summer trip to the Kootenays. No BMW dealers there so I don’t want to run into problems out of town. Kind of a costly precautionary replacement so “what does one do”? Hopefully it craps out while I am in the city.

Early model 2015 (built in 2014), original battery, 62,000 miles. It completely, fully died and remained dead for about a week due to serpentine belt tear from track day. I purchased a CTEK and it fixed the battery without needing replacing. Have never used CTEK since then (2.5 years ago). Use to drive about 4 days a week and now drive maybe once a week.

2015 with 28,200 miles. It has the original battery and gets driven a few times a week. It gets stored in winter with a Ctek.

2016 with 118K miles. Original battery. Driven maybe once every two weeks but mostly sitting during winter. I use a battery tender 4 amp lithium charger to charge it up if the car hasnt been driven in a month.

2016 with 96K miles, daily driven with original battery. In bimmerlink I see about 60-70% life left depending on how long it sits. Usually try to remember to remove the wireless OBD adapter if it’ll be sitting for more than a day or two. Likely will upgrade to Antigravity at some point. |

2019 original battery. Never keep it on a tender and I have the oem trickle charger but it's driven weekly. Nothing ever broke on this car for me except a faulty ac sensor which resulted in a frozen evaporator coil the first week of purchase.

2018 M4 still on the original battery with 22k miles; on a CTEK lithium ion tender from November - April / May.
It's impressive how long these batteries seem to be lasting, but definitely looking into Antigravity's battery as a possible future replacement compared to OEM. |

Just picked my F83 up yesterday from a winter hibernation in a lockup. Last started October 22nd 2023.
Never fitted a Ctech or other battery conditioner and was a bit worried as no alarm red LED flashing. Assumed it was dead. Car would not open with remote so used the key to open drivers door. Car then sprung into life with alarm going off. The key fob then worked to turn off the alarm with the car starting no problem from the button. Put the ctech on when I got home and it showed as 2 bars. Now on a ctech for the next few weeks. Planning on keeping the ctech on for a good while. Now starting to take the top up charge. Car is July 2019 with 24k miles. |
