Does the 328i have enough power?
I'm looking to pick up an '08 CPO'd 328i E90 in the next few days here. Just wanted to find out if they feel underpowered? I drive A LOT (mostly highway), and i feel a little more comfortable going with the proven and reliable 328 compared to the somewhat finicky, more powerful 335. Any comments?
I assume the car will have plenty of power for my needs, but just wanted to check with some owners. Also, i wanted to see what you thought of this deal....the car has 26,000 miles, sport package, no cold weather, leatherette, and CPO warranty. They are asking $23,900. Is an offer of $22k unreasonable? |

Enough power for what?
It might not be a track monster but it's still very capable of passing on the interstate. And it'll be a far more engaging drive than most other sedans.

I sold my '08 E90 M3 last year since i took a job that has me driving almost 100 miles per day. I love the 3 series cars, and interstate is my main thing. Im not looking for it to be a racecar at all. I think it will work well for me. |

The 328i has plenty of power to get around. Had one as a loaner two months ago and it was ok. Not as fun to drive as the 335i, but it was ok. Good luck...

For a daily driver, more than enough power.
As far as that deal goes, I think it's pretty good. Check edmunds for appraisal.

It will still be faster than 3/4ths of the other cars on the road... maybe even more with all the 4 bangers out there.

Plenty of power in almost every day situation...off the line to get in front of a pack of cars or get around cars on the highway. Only time you'll feel a lack of power is if you're being challenged by someone with a glut of HP.
Don't forget that the 6-speed has an official 0-60 time of 6.2 seconds. Less than a decade ago, that would lead the entire class.

Own an '07 328i bought used from local BMW dealer (not CPO - mileage was above 50K).
Plenty of power, fun to drive (other car is an '88 e30 M3 - more fun to drive, but low on creature comforts). Price sounds right for your low mileage CPO vehicle. |

Plenty of power for most people, especially with the MT. Even on the highway in 6th there's enough torque to move the car along. Downshifting to 5th or even 4th will pass most anything.

Commuting as much as I do, I laugh at people who think they drive "far" to work because it takes them 20 or 30 minutes to get there.

the manual almost feels as if its a different car than the slushbox auto. i own a 6MT and have driven a few autos, definately a noticeable difference especially with the sports package.

Good luck with it !!.. I just sold an 07-m6 and have a 535i...sport and. A merc e350 sport (the old ladys ) .. I picked up a 328i sport lci in dec ...for my daily driver ..and it handles so well that you forget about the hp.. And I'm a hp guy .. It's a fine sled for a daily driver
especially If you have not owned a BMW ... Nothing in it's class can compare .. 50 50 distribution kicks the shit out of hp with bad engineering But if you want that kick in the pants in the Beemer fam .. Go M/// |

I'm from Honda VTEC world and have no issues extracting power from 328i. It's very similar - want more output - give it more RPMs. So, - downshift and go. This completely transforms the engine and the car. Close ratio 6sp MT helps to maintain the engine in shape. Otherwise it might seem like on sleep pills.
Not sure how the AT transmission works with this engine though. |

I'll get the popcorn. Someone bring the soda and lets wait for the 335i owners to get in here.

i got a 2011 335i, and my wife has a 328i coupe 2009.
335i by nature im spoiled by the low end torque given, which is not my weekend car since i put too many miles in its first year driving (~21,000 miles)... actually 8 months... and its a 6MT so naturally as an enthusiast i love it. 328i - great daily, but power just doesnt cut it for me.. honestly. especially when i can just get to my second option 335i anytime i want.. always tempted to pull it out of the garage.

I do 60 miles+ a day in my 328i and it's great for a daily driver. Fast and nimble enough to be fun while getting good mpg. I'm sure you'll like the MT over the auto. One word about the sport package- the tramlining on one I tested on the St. Louis highways was pretty bad. Bad enough that I got my deposit back and switched to one without sport. I'm doing too much committing to have to struggle to keep the car straight. Or, just get rid of the run flats.
