M-Sport kit - improves resale value?
Hi All,
I have had my 2007 335i e93 for 10 months now and it has 61000km. I'd love to get the m-sport body kit as it improves the look of the car greatly in my opinion. My question is - is spending $2500 on a painted and installed replica kit going to increase the value of the car when it comes to selling/trading in? Advertised pricing on carsales for a '07 pre lci similar km in NSW starts at $45k. The msport '08 starts at $52k. Basically I'm trying to justify spending the money on the kit and am looking for opinions on what the kits worth to a buyer. When I was looking for my 335 I was desperate for the msport purely for the looks of it, but couldn't extend the budget. Thoughts? |

I'm sure if you did a Msport kit and lci lights you can get more. It really updates the cars look.

M-Sport on the car makes it a little more appealing. Sticking LCI tail lights on a pre LCI car says stay clear of this car to any reputable dealer in the know.

No, it won't improve resale value!
It will only improve resale value if it was a factory option i.e. a "real" M-sport car! To be honest, I regret adding an after market M-sport kit to my car! As I'm selling it soon and I think this will steer a large number of potential buyers away! You're basically doing it to enjoy a car that looks like an M-sport one! Another option for you is to go with the aerodynamic kit which is the best looking body kit for non M-sport cars! Maybe if your car is space grey we can swap?

I never mod my car with the idea that i will get what i put into it when i sell it. if i thought that way i would leave car oem as is. reason i have never gotten or expected to get back the $$ i put into my cars.
only thing it does just like remodeling the kitchen. when you selling and the buyer is comparing yours to anther the options and some mods can make the buyers decision easier and yours sells faster. like i have E38 in excellent condition. high miles but interior is like new suede headliner. trunk has suede upholstery and over $6K in audio upgrades plus new suspension. but would i get $10K for it probably never... anyways upgrade/mod your car for your satisfaction and enjoyment... either way car is a fine piece of machinery . |

If it's a factory m sport the difference over a similar non m sport is massive! 5-7k on average over the year plus I was watching the market when looking to buy mine.
As soon as I saw one that was a fake m sport I wasn't interested anymore. Plus there is alot more to the m sport package than the kit only, like the sills, 19s, shadowline window trim, steering wheel, m sport suspension, ect ect. Initially I really was just after a Car with the m sport look, but now that I have an actual m sport I'm so glad I coughed up the extra $ as there is so much more than just the kit. Don't even look twice at a normal e92 in the street but the m sport turns heads, makes it look like an actual sports Car. |

No straight dealer wants a modded car - especially one as technical as an E90/1/2 - it's an orphan car once it's been knowingly modded - who knows what crappie service it's had straying from OEM (brakes, oil, parts) s/he doesn't know about waiting to kick the new owner in the butt?

yeh i'd tend to agree, as a buyer of a couple of second hand beemers i always look for m-sport. Rather than the look, i get it mainly for the suspension/steering wheel and seats.
I throw caution to the wind when they are aftermarket bumpers/or even oem ones not standard on the car etc.. I just assume they've had a front and rear accident and they've changed the bumpers. and yes any mods is generally worse for resale. part it out and sell it like u'r a responsible person that doesn't know what modding even means. That said, I don't believe anyone here mods their car for resale anyways, its for your own enjoyment. |

Msport for 335 includes Mtech front rear, sideskirts too. /= M3 skirts, suspension=normal sport suspension, wheels, sills, thicker wheel but NO REAL M BUTTON, and the pedals and foot rest. Once said mod for your own pleasure. I would say just get the bumpers the others no one knows/ cares/can tell (outside). This should only be for your own pleasure not monetary resale value..

Thanks Shane! The M235i is much more fun to drive than a tuned 335i. I had three test drives in three weeks. I was alone on the last occasion!

Thanks for all the feedback. The car already has the 225 19" MSport wheels.
The only other mod is the tune the previous owner got. I drove the MSport 335's when looking for the car and actually prefer the stock suspension over the sportier version. My previous CLK230K was lowered on 19's and I eventually got over the harsher ride and wanted something more comfortable as I don't plan to do any track driving. My thought process was that the Mtech body kit looks great and it would just improve the look over the other prelci models. I do have a small bump of the rear left which is what prompted the update idea. The Mtech kit would come from Euro Division which I thought was a quality kit. I've never been tempted to add a body kit previously but on this type of car I thought it might add to the car. Oh...forgot to mention - I'm getting married and saving for my first property so I'm looking for some sort of justification to spend the $ . The fiancee has been checking this thread and is currently in the lead. Unfortunately my "satisfaction and enjoyment" isn't worth $2.5k :P |

lol like the other dude said, keep ur stock bumpers for when your going to sell. (like i am ) and you can easily sell your m sport bumpers separately too. |

Build up the car as you like, its your blank canvas not your mates, who cares what the dealer thinks about a modded car chances are you wont take it there anyway.
It is unlikely that you will trade it in when it comes time to sell, as the dealer will offer a pittance and to be honest they don't want any old BMW pre 2010 on there yard chances are it will end up at auction. Dealers only want to sell new cars much less hassle. The down side is you spend your $100,000 for your dream car to find out that next year there is something better. You are screwed cause now your car is worth $65,000 as a trade in. The new up and coming owners of these turbo BMW 135/335 come from a performance back ground anyway, so you may find that a tastefully modded car is what the new market will be looking for. I can tell you that a lot of our new customers come from the JDM car seen and would sooner purchase a nicely done modded car than a stocker. If you own a N54/55 car Why would you not aspire to mod it if you want to leave it stock and have a few bucks you purchased the wrong car. So if you want to mod it just do it, hang onto all the old parts and have a ball |
