Aux/Ipod connector
My rubbish headphone jack cable got on my nerves crackling all the time, so I ordered one of these on recommendation of a friend.
http://www.russandrews.com/product-G...-iPod-2204.htm Uses the proper Ipod connector, rather than headphone jack. Sound quality much improved, ive turned up the bass a notch, and the treble down one on the headunit, so it must be giving better sound quality. not cheap mind. |

yeah i got a cable pretty much identical to this for about £3 on ebay. Russ andrews are sadly the kings of over-charging massively for very basic things. It will indeed be an excellent cable, but in a car, i question whether the sonic benefits of a cable of that type would be noticeable.
Also the russ andrews one doesnt let you charge the ipod: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170818445498 |

yeah I had one of the ebay cheapy ones, sounded muffled all the time. Ive tried a few different ones, granted they all do the same thing, but the sound quality is definately better - Id be sending it back otherwise, especially at that price.

definitely no muffling going on with the one I bought. And i know muffled when I hear it, as an owner of a hi-fi system that i wouldnt let a russ andrews cable near!
I appreciate a good cable, and indeed even my mains cables in my main system are uprated jobs. But in a car environment, i defy anyone to notice the difference between one perfectly adequate cable, and another. Especially given the signal starts by coming out of three tiny, very thin pins on the bottom of an ipod. Strapping thick copper cable to it, wont improve matters |

I used a Sendstation Pocket Dock
Allows you to charge via USB (USB Cigar Charger) and play via ipod / iphone dock. Sound quality is excellent. Its the only one of its type that i canfind that has clips that secuer it into the ipod / iphone dock to stop it falling out. The chaper ones do exactly the same job but the connector comes away from the device far too easily. |

Thanks for this post, never really looked at replacing my headphone jack cable.
Just ordered the Belkin 12v - 5v USB Cigarette Adaptor and the Headphone Jack/ USB to Ipod connector, all less than £7, should sort my charging problem out nicely! Cheers
