A/C kills gas mileage

This week is the first week in a long time that I've been able to drive around without needing to turn on the air con, and wow my gas mileage went up so much. I used to get around 280 miles between fill ups and this last time I went 320 miles.

well yeah,. the DME has to up the idle to compensate for the extra load on the engine. higher idle and load = more fuel needed

Mythbusters did an episode on this:

Long story short AC off works well in the winter. In the summer months windows down creates a less efficient drag.
