Black line taillights were also available on the X6, but BMW failed to offer them to the X5.... Quote:

First off the beast looks great keep up the good work brother I've been impatiently waiting for my Indy shop to install my AA downpipes and stage 2 tune...have you noticed any gaseous odors since installing the dp's?

Gaseous odors fill up my garage each time I enter or leave and my wife complains about it. I also didn't notice any significant power difference between "tune only" and the addition of "downpipes and revised tune". It just felt different? ie; rubber band acceleration is gone, but exact same result when I go heads up with my buddys "non-tuned" X5M (Mine walks, but dosent run away from the other X5M like Nick's "M4 vs. tuned M4" video shows here below); Maybe my expectation was too high? Not according to the video. I talked to AA about this and they're solution was to sent me an OBDII code reader for an additional $90.... Not sure what information that this devise will deliver to them in order to help them revise my tune... Seems like data logging or an all-wheel dyno would have been the better answer? I also talked to Jordan at Velos about their tune... he said that their tune would all but eliminate the gaseous odor, but I would have to toss the tune I already have a significant investment in and completely start over with their tuning package. There is a silver lining to DPs, however; The car sounds much more awesome and that excessive volcanic heat buildup in the engine bay is now a thing of the past. ^^^ hit it on the head. without a dyno tune, it's hard to take advantage of the down pipes.
It seems that BMW had designed well-flowing cats from the factory, so there really isn't that much restriction to begin with. Downpipes noticeably reduce turbo lag and the sound is 100x better. As far as odor, you do smell it once in a while, but it doesn't bother me. All my vehicles in recent years have had the cats removed, so I don't mind it |
