To add to what was said about there not being a 335Xi model...
The 335 is more of an enthusiast car than a core 3er, I'd think of it as somewhat along the lines of the E46 33OI ZHP, a sporty road thrashing 3 |

Why hector said the 335ci is 330hp Twin Turbo ? And , you said 335ci should be 310hp NA right? Is this the major item this group still cannot agree on ?

That sums it up. The Euro market is getting the bi-turbo with approx. 330 bhp, which translates into approx 310hp by the current US yardstick. The BIG question is whether the NA market gets this same bi-turbo engine. Some of us are willing to forego our citizenship if Purves cannot convince the lawyers to release it in the US. I do not think he has any trouble with the bean counters on this one -- it is a no-brainer to improve both the image and the bottom-line. Look at all the folks lined up and waiting for the 335i now. It is a must-do if BMW is to maintain the position of the ultimate driving machine in the eyes of the hp war, 0-60 mad USA car buying public. Can't have Lexus, VW, etc upstaging the 3-series.

That is the debate. Originally... going back to the beginning of this year... the belief (alleged BMW plan) that I reported was to bring us a Turbo 3 series that would fit nicely between the normal 330i and the M3. The inside information regarding the Turbo was solid... the gap filler was all speculation. Over the last couple of months, as we near the release of the E92, we are getting more reliable information about what is coming. Tine is claiming the same thing I was claiming towards the first of the year. The same thing the Dutch link says in either this thread or one of the others... that the 335 will be in addition to the 330. That could very easily be true for the world market... BUT will NOT under any circumstances apply to the US market. Go to BMW's world website... www.bmw.com and select a country. Now select the 3 series. How many models do you see? Now go to www.bmwusa.com - How many 3 series models do you see? We will have a 328 and a 335... something that will work nicely across ALL the model platforms... does a Turbo... logically... work with an X5? X3? I know it sounds cool... but in a 535i? Seriously... we will get a NA bumped version of the current 3.0L... rated at 3.4+L calling it a 3.5L producing around 310hp. Interestingly... the facelift Z4 will only get the 215hp/255hp 3.0L and the new X5 (MY07) will get the 255hp 3.0L and a 340hp V8. The 760i will be replaced by an Alpina B7 monster. Cool stuff. Oh... and the "xi" delay is probably more about marketing and manufacturing limitations then anything else.

Hell yeah! As much as I love the E90 (remember, I can drive them any time I want)... until BMW produces a ZHP version of the E90... I will continue my love affair. Of course... 310hp would cause anyone to cheat. Unless, of course, by then I decide to do the supercharger. We'll see. I'm waiting just as impatiently as the rest of you.

Interesting stuff.
Which means that after removing all the blah blah from this thread, if SpeedFreak is correct about the US models, Canada should keep a 325, as replacement for our 323, with the current engine. (My speculation only). |
