I turned ASD off as I personally do not care for the artificial sound the feature offers. With the MPPSK and Eventuri intake I am able to hear the gear shifts and intake sounds much more clearly with the enjoyment knowing the amazing sound I am hearing is not artificial.

Here are some videos of my retrofitted ASD in action.

First half of first video, comfort mode, barely noticeable (the way I want it). 2nd half of first video, sport mode, more noticeable.

Second video I messed around with F80 M4 settings. Way too aggressive and noticeable, especially on my aftermarket amp & speakers. What also sucks about the M4 setting is that the volume is constant on Eco-Pro,Comfort and Sport. Probably because M4 has different way of adjusting driving modes.

Original post:

Hi guys

I thought I'd post of this thread to share my progress on retrofitting Active Sound Design to my 2013 328i MSport.

To start off with I ordered the module. It has various part numbers, but apparently they are all the same: 65129352264*; 65129326555; 65129343317; 65129353021; 65129362445; 65129362445; 65 12 9 322 712 (03/12 -> ); 65 12 9 302 536 (03/12 -> 07/13).*

I could not get a part number for the connector so I will be making up my own.

Next up I got the pin assignments from ISTA Rheingold:

Attachment 1179890

Here is the inside of the connector:

Attachment 1179891

I then transposed all the pin assignments onto an image to make my life easier:

Attachment 1179892

I then continued to only connect power and the CAN signal.

Attachment 1179893

ISTA detects the new module
ISTA before:

Attachment 1179894

ISTA after:

Attachment 1179895

E-SYS detects the new module:

Attachment 1179896

After this I flashed the ASD module. I used a modified FA where I changed the production code typekey to 3C17 to ensure it is a production code that included ASD.

Here is the FDL edit view afterward:

Attachment 1179897

Next thing I must connect the feed from NBT head unit and output to the AMP. I first need to spend some time to make proper connectors so will update all you guys once I progress further.

Very excited to see this retrofit work!
i didn't see caf section on asd module. And i don't know how can i active to asd caf section. May you help me?

my e-sys setup is;
E-Sys 3.27.1
E-Sys Launcher PRO 2.8.2
v.4.27.20_PSdZData_Lite

Hello all, this post is super helpful. You as a community are awesome!

Does anyone know if there are female headers of the hifi amp, and its part number?

I ask this because I'd like to make an extension to retrofit ASD in my f31 that has wifi amp without changing the oem original cables.

My old 2006 Z4 did this...there was a pipe from the intake that fed past through the driver side firewall to pump in sound. Still some foam in the pipe to reduce the sound but I remember removing that as well.

ASD retrofit tutorial and resources

Hello,

Since I am in the process of doing this retrofit (ASD), I compiled all relevant information in one single document with:

- tutorial for ASD retrofit
- connectors and wiring details including fuse box, etc..
- coding tutorial
- reported issues and open questions

I share it here for all of you to use, comment and enjoy. I will uptate it if/when required.

Important:
I have NOT installed this or followed this information yet - I am waiting for parts. All this information was copy-pasted from this thread and other resources.

Props to all that contributed in the forums, specially vitchie that created the main thread used as the main tutorial; atzebmw for its replies and clarifications, and many others for their questions and hands-in experience and for sharing their problems in the forum.

Of course I am not liable for anything. Its your life, car and decision. Enjoy!

Did you finish this retrofit? I am looking into doing this and rather pay someone to do it for me..

Hi, I’m going to attempt this, I don’t know which psdzdata version I should download? From the posts they say an old version is needed or the ASD feature won’t work. I have the part I have a harness. Need to splice some wires and connect up.
