Maybe, but I promise you the difference between true white and OEM LED is reflected in the photo...

My car, F32, was dimmed at first too. You need to adjust the interior brightness dial (next to the headlight switch). It is not in the I-drive menu. It is much more noticeable now.

I think the I-Drive setting is a relative adjustment.

So:

[overall interior brightness from wheel next to headlight switch] +
[adjustment from I-Drive ambient setting]
= actual ambient lighting brightness

How do you install these plastic strips? Just slip it into the existing door trim where the ambient light is?

Yes

There's already more than one extensive discussion about them on here.

Jay757 has a different steering wheel than Jazza. Mine is similar to Jazza's. I have a 2015 F36 M-Sport. What package does the other wheel come with?

I was thinking the same exact thing.

Like how BMW sportline vehicles have red trim and accents.

yeah but because they are 3d printed you can't think of them as ordinary plastic....

plastic if produced by injection molding method they are really cheap

but 3D print is alot more expensive to produce....one of the 3D print technology
will do it bit by bit so it'd probably take a whole day to print all 4 stripes

another printing method has to use very expensive equipment so they need to charge more for the products to cover the cost of the machines...

i myself paid $60 for another guy in Chicago to do mine, it's definitely expensive but its quite worth the money

Not true. Our company has 3 small 3D printers (8 cu ft each). Printing costs almost nothing once you bought the printers, as it is just plastic. Our machines were about $3k per, and printing something like that would net you more than 4 per run, and take about an hour or two to complete.

Printing with the 3D printer is cheaper than injection molding (mold costs more than the printer does).

honestly you are just talking about the same thing from a different prospective

most of us do not have a 3D printer, so we need to pay people to do it. When i said it's expensive because you need to pay other people to do it, these companies who paid $3k for a machine need to make money so they cannot charge you $4 for the pieces you want

itd of course be cheap if you have access to print it yourself, but i'd say most of us here don't

Which is why there's NFW I'd buy those; his capital costs are not my problem. But maybe if they were cheaper, that eBay seller would do more volume.

The market will dictate. There are plenty of people willing to pay $60 imho. I'd do it if I wasn't getting rid of my car soon.

Same perspective. Him getting an injection mold created to make them is more money than him buying a 3D printer to print them out. Its the reason we validated a new better stronger faster 3D printer for a current project we are doing.

Bringing this back with a more specific question:

Is there a way to code the ambient lighting so that it automatically changes from orange to red when you change from comfort to sport mode?

That would be awesome. I have a method that takes some work to get setup. Basically we have 4 profiles on the iDrive. Each profile can be linked to a memory button. I have a "Sport" profile and a "Comfort" profile and have those mapped to different memory buttons.

"Sport" has the white ambient lighting (or whatever you choose) as well as the M HUD as default (M3 only), gauge cluster display, and remapped memory buttons (Tire pressure and temp, sport displays, display off etc)

"Street" has orange lighting, default speed only hud, gauge cluster display, standard memory buttons etc.

So it doesn't do it when going from comfort to sport or sport plus, but I can be in "sport mode" with a press of a button and the color and layout changes. The down sides is that the radio presets don't carry over. So you have to duplicate your profile and use the dupe with your presets as a starting point for the "sport" profile.

In the end it was too cumbersome so I don't really use it. However, it might appeal to other drivers.
