Help!!!! battery shorted but car still dead
Can anyone help please!!!
I was doing someone a favour and giving them a jump start. I managed to short out my positive to the bodywork whilst attaching the lead. Now my car is completely dead. The old battery was a dead short so I have replaced with a new one which is fine. Measuring across it when connected up and it's normal voltage etc. I am guessing something else has tripped and needs resetting or something. Is it a main fuse for the E92 or some kind of circuit breAker or something????? Any help gratefully received!!!!!!! |

I once didn't help a woman who needed a jump because of this situation. The other person is on the road and happy, but the BMW is now facing hundreds of $$$ of repairs.
There's no way the engineers wouldn't design for the possibility of messing up with cables, so hopefully there's some sort of fusible link that burns up and can be replaced. |

Think I may have found problem. Apparently the power distribution box has a fuse. I just need to test continuity to see if it's gone. Can't see that it can be anything else to be honest.

The IBS is integrated into the battery cable. You should find a good local garage to troubleshoot and repair it. Unless you are very tech savvy this isn't a job for you. It'll be a several hundred pound repair. |

This is why I don't give jumps using my car. I bought a jump start battery for 50 bucks that works great. I have seen several cars develop problems during jump starts. Sorry for the stupid jokes when you are trying to get a straight answer.
