Clay Bar vs Clay Mitt

I'm trying to find the best products to clean my cars with, and know clay must be included into that arsenal. I was wondering what people's opinions are for traditional clay bars vs mitts or blocks of clay. I feel as if they must be some downsides to these products, or else I would hear about them more frequently. Seems helpful for large surface areas, but again, what are the drawbacks if any??

I use a clay towel, it's like 7x7" and works for 95% of the cars I do. I still have actual clay for the tougher stuff

I bought a nanoskin clay mitt and it didn't do as good of a job as a regular clay bar. It is supposed to be a faster way to clay, but I found that even when I used a lot of detail spray, it put a residue on the car (which I removed with a regular clay bar).

Thanks for the input, this is what I was worried about as well. I bought a clay bar for myself but might try and nanoskin for my dad as he does not care as much and it would be much easier for him to clean the car with.
