Went to visit more of my wife's family down in Gonzalez, Texas. Could not pass on an opportunity to visit the legendary King Motor Inc service station. Continuously run since 1940, old school. They close at 5 so we had to pose not actually gas up but this place oozes nostalgia.

Absolutely a blast to drive - even stock. I have owned 4 F31 m sports and this engine is a perfect fit for the platform. Typical BMW underrating the engine power...I would assume its in the mid to high 300's for hp and tq stock. Can only imagine what this thing would be like with a tune...

I owned this exact car for 2+ years before selling it last Nov to a guy in So Cal - he wrapped it LSB, put ohlin coilovers on it and did the swap with an almost new 2k mile b58. I believe that Precision Designed did the swap...from what I was told, it was flirting with 40k all in between engine, trans, labor, coding, etc. Lucky for me, the seller gets bored quick and was on to the next project.

I still can't get myself to actively sell my F31 and a b58 swap is the perfect car for sure. IF only CA wasn't such a pain in the ass when it comes to engine swapped cars. I think that was also a reason why your seller ended up letting the car though? Something about having issues getting get the car titled here in CA. One man's loss is another man's come up!

Any other plans to the car? Looks pretty nice already though

Great story, I know you had some dislike for the coil overs on that car previously (Bilsteins maybe?). They did the swap relatively quickly, again makes you wonder how attainable and realistic it is, and can be! Hope you enjoy it, looks like a blast!

Love it! A mini dream of mine is to keep my car alive long enough to do a swap one day. Which transmission is in it? And still AWD?

So I wish it were a 6MT…had I commissioned the build, that would have been a “must”. Still AWD at moment, although I will be swapping in a virginized F80 cluster in the next few weeks to work with the HUD and will prob go xhp vs the 300.00 adapter…so may also do xdelete so I can turn Xdrive off when desired.

I’ll prob keep the LSB wrap at least through the winter, but may return to the all black spec next year. The ohlin road and track coils are a huge upgrade to the previous coilovers I had on the car - no strange noises and car feels like it’s on rails.

The previous owner changed directions with regard to cars very quickly…I spoke with the owner of the shop that did the swap in depth and he said the car would have no issue passing the stringent CA BAR process…the owner had some other builds in mind and didn’t want to go through the process apparently. Car reads out through OBD as original 330 vin and engine, so if no “visual” inspection component of emissions is involved, should be all good. Will report back in coming weeks once I have to pass here in WI…

Excellent to hear and looking forward to seeing more updates on this dream wagon. I've been in contact with that shop since I'm based here in CA and actually not that far from them. It's not cheap, but is anything good ever cheap? I'm still on the fence about selling my F31. Wife says yes, I but for me... I mean its still the cheapest and most fun commuter car I have, considering its been paid off for a couple years now. I guess it just depends on how things work out on my N54 swapped E91.

Yeah the f31 is just soooo good with a b58 - fast without being obnoxious and sounds so much better than s55. Any better and it would have a manual swap...very excited to get the F80 cluster fit so I have the M HUD view, etc.

Side note - did drive a buddy's G05 X5 the other day and absolutely loved it. Not as cool as a wagon, but just the right size and so good...even with the b58 in the 'base' 40i. May be next move when I get bored...

Gave it a clean today and fitted TLG mudflaps ( sorry mud flap haters but I live in the countryside and like my paintwork )…neighbours think I’m mad as it’s raining but I just couldn’t stand having a filthy car any longer……
