Introduction Post/Headlight Help

Hey all,

I’m new to this forum as well as Bimmerpost so I thought I’d just introduce myself and ask for a little bit of help. I’ve got a Le Mans Metallic Blue N55 E90 (in the picture) and it’s been a great car for me so far, minus the classic BMW oil issue but that’s been easy to deal with.

My real problem comes from the headlight fog, which I’m pretty sure you can see in the picture. It came like this when we got it almost a year ago now and I have found no fixes as of yet. Any ideas on how to get that fog to go away or should I just get new headlights? (Any tips about posting on here are very welcome too)

Beautiful car!

And I have fog and yellow on my headlights and for those I was going to get a headlight kit to sand and buff the headlight to look new. That’s what I’d suggest. I’ve also heard you can take the lens off and do it from the inside as well.

Sand and polish the headlight with a good headlight restoration kit.

The best way would be to sand it and apply 2K clear coat.

If the eyebrow has yellowed, there’s not much you can do for it. You can remove the lens and do something with the eyebrow, replace the lights or install one of those eyebrow overlay decals.

What grain sandpaper do you recommend for that? That’s looking like it’s gonna be the best and easiest option for me at this point. Serf27

It depends how bad the lens is, hard to see in the photo.

If you’re going to put 2k clear, you need to use 800 grit as the last step.
If the lens is bad, you could start at 400 grit, move to 600, finish with 800 and apply clear coat and that will last a long time.

If you’re going to polish them, start with 800 and see if it removes the haziness from the light. Then move to 1000, 1200 and finish with 1500 then use a cutting compound to remove the scratches.
You’ll need upkeep the lens with some sealant once in a while so they don’t fade again

I would suggest trying the 3M headlight restoration kit. I've had great success with that. Comes with all of the grits and compounds and an attachment that fits on a drill.

Refinishing the headlights is a pretty straight-forward task (a lot of detail shops do it too), but I would not suggest doing it without the assistance of a kit and a good set of instructions. In other words, don't just buy sandpaper and go at it. Use a kit.

Thanks man I’ll definitely go for that, kits are gonna be my best friend for everything because I’m just now getting into cars and all I really want is to take care of the one I’ve got.
