Stage 1 Supercharger with Intercooler
I was wondering if anyone is running a stage 1 supercharger with an intercooler on their e90/e92/e93 M3. I know stage 1 supercharger does not offer an intercooler as part of the package. Stage 1 supercharger has all the HP I need plus the benefit of an intercooler for hot track days.

Yes at least one person on this site has done this on an ESS VT1 550 system. But you are basically paying the price of the intercooled kit since you need to get the intercooled manifold plus intercooler system. If you are looking at VF or ESS, why don't you just get the intercooled kit and run a larger pulley? That way you will get the boost and power of the 550 (non-intercooled kit) but the IATs of the intercooled kit. Plus you can always change pulleys later if you get the itch for more power. Furthermore, in a few years when you are done, you can sell the kit as an 620/625 intercooled kit of course and they have a much higher resale (currently) than the non-intercooled kits generally.
There are other options for kits such as G-Power, Evolve, Gintani and AA but I'm not sure about those. Also, I track my ESS VT2 650 and also use a standalone water/meth system to keep IATs down. Good luck.

We have just finished the final touches on our new VF595 system. It was designed exactly for what you have in mind as a Cooled Stage 1 system.
The VF595 uses our universally upgradeable intake manifold and slide-in heat exchanger to add cooling to our existing VF540 kit. You get the added benefits of our air-to-water cooling system with less boost and without having to pay as much as our VF620 or VF650 kits. More details on the VF595 to come. Existing VF540 owners who are interested can easily upgrade with the same manifold for much less than the cost of going to VF620. |
