Is it worth buying a high mileage 335i ?
Here's my question I currently own a 2010 328i sedan and my brother owns a 2007 335i coupe I love my BMW but I just crave that extra power from the n54 engine. Now my point is I don't feel like spending a larger amount of money and time looking for a lower mileage 335i coupe I recently came across one with 130k six speed manual real nice supposedly all records and maintained done and the price is not bad at all the only thing holding me back is i don't want the thing blowing up a month after driving it. Any input will help thanks guys

Have the turbos every been replaced? Usually turbos start going out around 100k-120k I'd advise you to just stay away from it, thousands of dollars worth of problems is not worth the extra 70 horsepower the 335 gives you. Save up and buy one with less miles or be patient and wait for a better deal to come

Yeah if I were you don't buy the car unless the car has a warranty still. I own a 335i and so far it cause me a lot of headaches. Luckily, I still have a warranty on mine.

This comes down to your choice.
You can easily get the turbos replaced with OEM or even upgraded ones. Just depends if you want to spend some money to maintain the car. After you get it nicely maintained I'm sure you will have a On your face. You will be getting a lot more than 70 horsepower since you probably plan on modifying it. You got to pay to play. |

N54 engines are pretty solid, its just the other components around it that are the real issue. If maintenance is up to date and you can afford to pay most of the car off, if not all then i'd go for it if you really like it. Otherwise i'd stay away. Having monthly payments plus paying to replace parts will be a nightmare. I've learned through owning this car, it's a good idea to have some money saved up on the side for when things go south.

I wouldn't do it. I would hate it if once I got it, I had to start replacing things shortly after even if you're more than capable maintaining it yourself especially since it's a N54 you're after.

Buy the damn thing and go have fun with it all the way up to 200k. Im at 140k, do all my preventative maintenance, and my car is still a blast to fly around in.

Agree with the majority of the members....stay away. The only reason I would say to even consider buying it is:
1. Are you Knowledgeable and capable enough to do the many repairs and maintenance the car will need. 2. Have the major components been replaced/upgraded? Turbos, waterpump/t-stat, starter etc...... 3. Do you have the expendable cash to throw at parts/repairs? Even if the answers for the above were Yes, I would personally look for a lower mileage one and take the cash, you would throw in for repairs/parts, and put them towards upgrades. |

If you know how to work on cars its really not that bad. Usual oil filter housing leaks, accessories belt/tensioner, water pump/thermostat. Other than that neither of mine had other issues. Problems are worth it to me still thats why I got another one. Last edited by M335Xi; 03-24-2016 at 09:44 PM.. |

I wouldn't do it even if you can fix most of the stuff. Turbos are likely on their way out and they'll run you $1000 if you find a deal and DIY. Installation looks like it requires you to drop the subframe and book time has been quoted at 15 hrs. Parts are expensive and if you're lucky it's just $500(waterpump) otherwise it's going to be at least $1k (set of injectors, DME, turbos, etc) and those are just part prices.
