Local performance shop had a dyno day.
Figured what heck I'm going to get some stock dyno numbers. It was a hot day 92degrees. Pretty happy with results. Did 2 runs First 303whp 344tq Second 302whp 351tq |

@Osirisman, 303 whp?!
That seems a bit high for a stock 335is. The stock horsepower is supposed to be around 320hp, but I know everyone says that BMW underrates their engines, so let's suppose a it really is 330hp. With a theoretical 20% power loss through the drivetrain, you're making at least 370 hp. Is my math right on that? If the math is right, can someone explain to me how the 335is' stock engine can make horsepower that high? |

There was another member here who dynoed at around 305. There was a stock 2011 n55 335i which put down 281whp today as well. |

Yeah, but even at 15% loss, the engine is making at least 356hp, well above the theoretical 320hp. Maybe the fans help out a bit, but still, that's a high number for stock, isn't it?

It is kind of hard do that sort of math. Right after he could have gone next door and done a run on a different dyno and only pulled 280whp. |

The numbers are accurate for the sea level and DA we live in. Please note: The 335is has overboost up to 7 second till 4500-5000 RPMs Last edited by BQTuning; 04-07-2014 at 08:09 AM.. |

Dynojet number are pretty standard. If you want inflated number run your car on a dynapack (measures at the hub). Mustang dynos are the heart breakers.

FYI for the rest Dynojet measures hp via acceleration of the rollers and calculates torque. Mustang measures torque via the energy required to resist the car and calculates the effective torque when factoring in vehicle weight and air resistance at 50mph.(If these numbers are off your dyno numbers can be high or low) then calculates HP from effective torque. The dynapack is another inertia dyno same as mustang but it eliminates the losses from tire/roller contact that occurs on both mustang/dynojet. The best dyno to tune on in my experience is an inertia dyno because you can do sustained pulls.

It's a dyno who cares what it reads. It is a tuning tool. Stop looking at the numbers and look at the curve, that is what matters. This back and forth dyno shit needs to just stop once and for all. All car enthusiasts know this so why do we always head down this path?
