Sorry to hear that. But look on the bright side - a fix-it ticket is better than a speeding ticket.

Did the tint shop tell you that tinting your front windows was illegal in CA ?? Did they make you sign a waiver or something ??

It's illegal in Cali for front windows to be tinted. With the increase in cameras at intersections you can be sure that front plates and tinted windows are moving up the priority list to pull people over. I don't have much sympathy in these cases, you know what to expect if you get caught.

I don't like to give law enforcement any reason to stop me, that opens the door for the officer to look for more violation.

+1. And don't forget the new hands-free cell phone law that kicked in on July 1st. Tons of people were getting pulled over.....

For the record, I wasn't asking for sympathy...I did infact state that I was "in the wrong." So I don't know where your pompus attitude comes from...

I'm sure you drive the speed limit every where you go, make complete stops at every stop sign, yield to oncoming traffic, never cross a crosswalk when the hand is flashing red, and help little old ladies cross the street. You sir, deserve a gold star for being a model citizen.

Sorry to hear that man! I heard that if you get a fix it ticket for tinted windows you can just take a pic of your car, then photoshop it so that the tint is alot lighter and then mail in the photo, is this true?

I am asking now because I plan on going with illegal tint here in Texas (I'm thinking 15%), and I will not be running a front plate either.

I have no idea what California you live in, but in California the rest of us live in it is NOT illegal for tint front windows. It is, however, illegal to tint darker than 35%

I'll go with this interpretation of California law.

Interesting. Websites showing what each state's laws are have CA as no front window tint allowed. Here's what the CA Vehicle code says: (bolding is by me):

26708 (d) Notwithstanding subdivision (a), clear, colorless, and
transparent material may be installed, affixed, or applied to
the front side windows, located to the immediate left and
right of the front seat if the following conditions are met
:
(1) The material has a minimum visible light
transmittance of 88 percent
.
(2) The window glazing with the material applied meets
all requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard
No. 205 (49 C.F.R. 571.205), including the specified minimum
light transmittance of 70 percent
and the abrasion resistance
of AS-14 glazing, as specified in that federal standard.
(3) The material is designed and manufactured to
enhance the ability of the existing window glass to block the
sun’s harmful ultraviolet A rays.
(4) The driver has in his or her possession, or within the
vehicle, a certificate signed by the installing company
certifying that the windows with the material installed meet
the requirements of this subdivision and identifies the
installing company and the material’s manufacturer by full
name and street address, or, if the material was installed by
the vehicle owner, a certificate signed by the material’s
manufacturer certifying that the windows with the material
installed according to manufacturer’s instructions meets the
requirements of this subdivision and identifies the material’s
manufacturer by full name and street address.
(5) If the material described in this subdivision tears or
bubbles, or is otherwise worn to prohibit clear vision, it shall
be removed or replaced.

Edit: Here's subdivision (a):

26708. (a) (1) No person shall drive any motor vehicle with any object or material placed, displayed, installed, affixed, or applied upon the windshield or side or rear windows.

Not sure why that is but it is legal to have 35% on the driver and passenger window in California. Every shop will do it (and give receipt)

That's what I copied from the CA vehicle code.

Edit: Para (3) shows that it's for UVA protection. Para (d) says that if it's for UVA protection, it has to be colorless. I'll definitely read what I post next time......
