20% AFR actual vs. target deviation over 5500 RPM

Hi all,
analyzing my logs i noticed that actual AFR at WOT deviates at > 5500 rpm from target AFR for both banks, by around + 20%, so i am running richer than the tune tells the car to do. I have seen it as rich as 10 AFR at times.

This never happened when i had a tune based on Euro market 325i software, it started when i switched to an US market based 328i tune, actual SW and HW ID:

ECU: MSV80
Hardware: 7602220
Firmware: 0049QK0MI20S

Someone knows if this is some sort of catalyst protection routine that overrides everything else, maybe specific to US market cars?

Thank You,
JR

Firstly, congratulations with your efforts to accurately log the engine parameters. I have seen very few people go to this effort with the N52.

It would help if you could log multiple values at once. like RPM, throttle (TPS), engine load, along with your Lamda wert and Lamda sol values. I was able to log something like 20+ parameters at one time, with out slowing the data stream. Using Test-o

I never caught my MSV70 dumping fuel beyond the standard full load fuel throttle maps. Those start to get "rich" above 6,000 RPM but not that rich and they would show in the target or SOL values anyways. There are routines that dump fuel to cool the cats based on a calculated cat temp. You can actual "log" the calculated cat temp. not actual as there is no sensor. Frankly, I would expect this routine to change the SOL value.

What are the exact parameters being logged? There are several with nearly the same names and sometime the German to English translation is not perfect.

For sure, you want to fix this as the N52 does not like that much fuel.

Thanks for the words of appreciation lol

currently i am logging with the ProTool app as you suggested so i don't have a clear mapping to the real PID. I am investigating Test0 now, so i will do some logging with it and hopefully get a better picture of what is happening, but gonna need a day off to drive with my laptop on the passenger seat, so this week end i may be able to do some datalogging.

I will use a variation of your custom job i found here on the forum, so thanks for that too!

looks like a translated version of the MSV80 parameter table?
I just copied the .prg file from my EDIABAS installation into Test0's ecu directory to get the ful table into the user interface.

But that Excel is a nice tool for searching, thinkering and composing an XML without even opening Test0

Thanks

one more question: am I corret in thinking these 2 are the short term fuel trims?

IMUL1 0x5A85 STAT_ADAPTION_MULTIPLIKATIV_BANK1_WERT Adaption Multiplikation Lambda Bank 1 Lambda adaptation multiplication Bank 1 % FAC_LAM_AD_OUT[1]

IMUL2 0x5A86 STAT_ADAPTION_MULTIPLIKATIV_BANK2_WERT Adaption Multiplikation Lambda Bank 2 Lambda adaptation multiplication Bank 2 % FAC_LAM_AD_OUT[2]

managed to do some logging, thing looks weird to me at the moment...negative trims and rich AFR...what do you think is happening here?

Looks like the rich fuel mixture is not "commanded" by the DME. The negative fuel trim is the DME trying to remove fuel.

Forgive me if you said this before, what Mods have you done to this car?

i have news: it was a tuning issue, kindly resolved by 22RPD; fueling was off and the DISA "4th stage" was left in place.

I don't really get why scaling fuel better and undoing the 4th stage made this much of a difference though

Now the car drives completely different, for the better.
Just compare this to the previous log:

https://datazap.me/u/jros/v4-disa-re...3140-3321-3404

As for the mods, current engine config is:

N52B30 first gen engine from a 330i
3SIM
stock (OE) headers
MILVS
Euro intake with K&N cone filter (same element as BMW performance intake)
smooth bore silicon intake tube

as for DME "commanding" this AFR, i did found it was, by logging this PID:

0x5816 STAT_0x5816_WERT Lambda Setpoint

The wacky rich AFR was following 0x5816 perfectly.

i don't know why, but 0x5816 commands a different value from these, that i thought were the "good ones":

0x4704 STAT_LAMBDA_BANK1_SOLL_WERT Lambda Sollwert Bank 1
0x4705 STAT_LAMBDA_BANK2_SOLL_WERT Lambda Sollwert Bank 2

seems it has some sort of priority, maybe it is influenced from some safety routine that engaged due to some chain reaction of factors triggered by the wrong tuning

Good to hear that you got it resolved. it looked like a tune issue but I was not sure you were running one.

I'm surprised your tuner has the car running so rich at high RPM. I thought the N52 liked a little less fuel.

Just can't replace a good data log. For tuning or trouble shooting.

yes, still a bit rich; when i had the N52B25 in this car it liked more being at around 13.5 AFR up there than being around 12.5, but this being a new motor to me for now i will see how it goes like this.
I will drive the car some like this and eventually i will request a different AFR curve to be programmed.

I am now converted to Test0, you are right in saying that a good logger is the best tool
