N55 2011 Rod Bearing Service
Hello everyone
I have an e92 N55 with 190,000kms (118060Miles) and I'm thinking of changing the rod bearings as preventative maintenance. I don't have any symptoms that indicate that I should change them now, but a friend of mine broke the engine of his N55 on the Nordschleife 4 months ago due to the rod bearings... The question comes now, I have contacted a local workshop specializing in BMW enhancement, modification and repair here in Germany, and they have told me that in the early N55s this is not usually necessary and that he can count on one hand all the N55s that have had to do the rod bearings service. So, does it make sense or not to do this service? EDIT: thats how my oil filter looks https://youtu.be/LhcdLdTrXvk Thanks Last edited by Costello; 08-04-2023 at 01:11 PM.. |

Maybe on the N55 it could damage the turbos I'd be more concerned if you can clearly see the glitter in the oil than in the filter |

Maybe they haven't personally done many, but the amount of early N55's with rod bearing failures is absolutely huge. I would definitely do them.

He told me the ones that don't fail are up to 2013, but as I said in the OP my best friend has been without car for 4 months due to road bearings noise in his e92 n55.

He seems to be very wrong, at least in the U.S. it's the 2011's that seem to have it the worst but all of the E chassis N55's and some F chassis N55's seem to have the issue. Insanely common on 2011's here.
