+1! It would be very interesting to see the responses. Especially if the majority of the places the survey was presented are car enthusiast sites.

Just a note: I think you will get very different results based on what part of the world the survey is performed in. Given that this is an international platform, you will get quite mixed results which probably are not representative for any particular country in isolation.
E.g. EVs are very affordable where I am and how long I see myself driving an IC-Engine vehicle is influenced by the fact that these are supposed to be banned for registration here from next year on...

I'm not aware of anywhere that IC engine cars will be banned. That would be an insane policy. What is going to happen is a ban on the sale of new IC powered passenger cars starting in 2035. IC cars already on the road will not be affected. I can see 2034 being a banner year for IC cars as Luddites the world over get their last chance to continue polluting the planet as long as possible.

I said “banned for registration” which is the same but goes beyond “banned for sale” as you would not be able to import IC (new or used) either. And unfortunately in some countries 2035 is 2025… at least as it stands today.

I don't see banned for registration being viable. Being able to import new from a country where they're still produced is unlikely, as they won't be made in any country.

Not sure where the misunderstanding is.
Many countries, incl where I live, will implement registration ban for IC cars. This means: - no new IC vehicles will be sold in country - no IC vehicles can be imported in country, new or old, as they will not be able to be registered Perfectly viable. Sensible? Different story.

Norway is as it stands banning registration of IC cars from 2025. Others are to follow. A good summary:

Please read my posts again. I'm not denying that new IC cars will cease to be sold by 2035. But all the IC cars still on the road then aren't going to be suddenly scrapped. They be used until they no longer work. The good news for their owners is that the price of fuel will drop like a stone thanks to supply and demand.

It seems the confusion is in the terminology. In the U.S. “registration” refers to getting your license plates renewed each year and being able to continue driving the car on the public roads. I don’t think banning the use of individuals’ currently owned ICE vehicles is proposed anywhere.

You can also ignore the myth about how EVs merely move the source of air pollution from cars to power plants. Even coal fired power plants create far less pollution per joule of energy created than internal combustion engines, let alone cleaner sources of electric power. |
