Connect a tube to your car's exhaust, then place the other end in one of the holes, and poison their environment.
Purchase a pellet gun and shoot them.
Be careful with using poisons if there are any domestic animals in the area.

I will say I was relieved to see it was legitimate gopher problems, not gopher a la Richard Gere.

I am sure this technique would work for any type of rodent...

Edit:

This works.

After 14 useless posts, happy to help you out . I tried EVERYTHING under the sun, including experts, waiting hours to shoot the sucker with a pellet gun (never showed his head from my angle), leaving my back yard like if a grenade had gone off, and no luck. Not even a stray cat that calls my back yard 'home' caught it in weeks. Finally what worked for me (after searching the net a lot) was gas cartridges. The ones I specifically used are called 'THE GIANT DESTROYER. The effective gas killer'. But you have to stick it in a FRESH hole, before the sucker plugs that lateral from the main tunnel (do a search to understand how they do their tunnels). Lucky for me the hole was in front of the kitchen window, so my wife called me when she saw the sucker spitting dirt. I already had a big, round rock, a long lighter, and a spoon to unplug the hole without letting dirt inside. I was on the hole like a minute after, stuck the cartridge, and put the rock on top of the hole real quick. You have about TEN SECONDS max to do everything. You have to ignite the damn thing RIGHT AT THE HOLE, then stick it in facing forward, put the rock on top of hole and step on it to seal the hole real well. Some smoke will leak out initially, but as long as it's little, no worries. No more gopher after that. One more showed up months later, bit killed the sucker at the first attempt. After almost a year, no more incidents. Still have 2 cartridges left. Luckily, I didn't have any landscaping yet, because they can pretty much destroy it. If you have landscaping, you need to act quickly. Good luck man, and hope this helps.

Thanks for the tip 'elp_jc'. Looks like i'll be heading to HD to pick up a pack of these gas sticks. I've tried sticking the hose in the hole and letting it run, but no luck. I also tried one of the electronic sonic spikes and the next day there was a mound next to it, so it didnt scare them off. I hope the smoke will get em'

i've had gophers too. what elp_jc works. but if you dont want to actually harm them, you can stick a hose down the holes and just run the water for a while. the water collapses their tunnels and forces them to relocate. i've done this multiple times
another alternative is to stick some juicy fruit gum down the hole. the gophers are attracted to the sweet scent and will eat the gum and die

I have moles/voles, not gophers. My neighbor does nothing to his lawn, so he has tons of grubs which the moles eat. They migrate into my yard from his. The lawn care company that takes care of my lawn has a Rodenator. I've asked them to come by and test it on my yard. I've tried smoke and poison and water. Nothing works. I hope this Rodenator thing does.

FWIW, the lawn at the Schloss Nymphenburg in Munich was also a mess because of these little bastards.
