Is this Suit OK for an Interview? - BMW 3-Series (E90 E92) Forum

Interviewing for a Digital Marketing Manager position at Anheuser-Busch InBev.

The suit I'm planning to wear has slim "peak" lapels. It fits me perfectly, my only concern is the lapels. I asked the salesman and tailor if the suit would be appropriate for an interview and they said sure, this style lapel is coming back as a modern designer look.

Wanted to get the thoughts of some folks here as well. Let me know. Thanks!

I don't see why not. Looks like a perfectly professional suit to me.

It's fine but make sure you wear a tie, nothing too "loud". The suit looks professional yet modern which should tell the potential employer something about you without using words. Should work in your favor for a marketing position.

Looks good to me. Combined with a nice tie, I would think they'd go together quite well. But best to remember that most guys (if you're going to be interviewed by any guys) will judge you by your SHOES more than anything else. Make sure you buy some nice dress shoes to go with the nice suit.

^ Yea, that's kind of what I was thinking. It's just a little different than what you might normally see. Maybe it will give the interviewers a subtle sense of my creativity.

Suit looks great. On the tie I would tend to disagree, not on using one, but imo it should be bold , not flashy, but I love ties with character. Just my .02

Any specific suggestions for ties? And shirts? Debating how slim I should go on the tie and shirt collar.

I would say good to go unless you are not slim enough to wear the suit and the suit looks like its hanging on for dear life.

Other then that I think the more modern you look the better these days. Shows you are fresh and current and shows me that you are ready to go with new ideas.

Go with a blue shirt and a yellow tie, for example. Something that offsets each other but doesn't contrast too much and distract the employers.

LOL, of course the salesman is gonna say "yeah yeah, good for interviews", what did you expect him to say? "NO!!! Stop! Don't buy it!" Hahha.

Just busting your chops. Looks like a nice suit, stylish. I'd say it's perfectly fine as well.

As for tie, it depends on your shirt as well. If you wanna bother, you can take some pix for us to judge. I consider myself to be aesthetically-gifted somewhat hehe.

that suit is fine. the lapels are fine. as others have said, wear a nice tie that is not too bold and a nice pair of leather shoes. lace-ups are dressier. if I am in that suit, I am not in loafers.

Looks fine bro. I'm in marketing and the thin/pointed lapels on a interviewee's suit are the last thing we're thinking about

This is a complex question!

It's what is "in" the suit your potential employer should be evaluating. That said, first impressions are important, too. As for suit style - I'd err on the side of contemporary ... not too "old fashioned" but not too trend setting or out-there! Same with shirt (basic white is always in fashion), tie, shoes and other accessories (e.g. french cuffs with flashy links, etc).

Some corporate environments are more laid back than others - don't get fooled into thinking just because someone tells you an organization is casual you should show up in jeans and a t-shirt. And marketing folks might be keying in on how you package your personal brand too!

If you are being considered for a senior-level / exec role you might take a look at the company's website to see how those already in the seats are dressed!

Last item, personal grooming ... don't overdo or underdo anything ... e.g. cologne etc. and be sure to have a good haircut and know in advance the company's "position" on facial hair (not policy but 'position'!).

Concur on most everything offered above, but don't recommend a skinny tie -- if you have to ask, you probably already know the answer.

Off topic, but I have a Z3 and am looking for aftermarket wheels to replace my oxidized OEMs. Where did you get yours?

There's nothing wrong with peak lapels and actually that's not really what is going to make or break a suit. I work in an environment where suits are worn often and all kinds of lapels are worn. Peak, notch, slim, Wide. Even Double breasted suits are back but those are more flamboyant and for an intervirw stick with single breasted.

The real problem with the suit you posted is the color. A lot of people wear black suits during the day but in my opinion it's not appropriate for daytime. The black color and striping make it look like a going out suit.

That's more of a fashion faux pas but for the interview you'll be fine.

Edit: remember with a slim lapel you need a slimmer tie and a shirt with not too big of a collar. Lots of guys screw this up.

It's actually not black, its a darker charcoal gray color. Hard to tell from that picture.

Ok. In any case, there's nothing outlandish about that suit, so I think it's fine. The interviewer is more likely to notice if your suit didn't well than peak vs. notch lapel.

The most important thing for an interview is to not draw negative attention to your clothing. You want the interviewer to focus on you, not what you're wearing. The secondary thing is to wear something you feel good about, because when you feel good, you'll come off as more confident.
