A report from Autocar claims that MINI is currently deciding between two MINI Beachcomber concept versions – one internally known as the “Moke” which is similar to the concept version and another shorter 3-door version known as the Canyon Coupe. Both versions will be based on a pillarless version of the Countryman platform.
These two models are being considered in addition to a coupe version of the Countryman.

The MINI Countryman will start at a base price of $22,350 (only $550 more than the 3-door Clubman wagon). A well-equipped Countryman in a Cooper S trim with optional all-wheel drive will cost just under $30,000, Jim McDowell, head of Mini USA, said today during the media launch for the vehicle. The prices include destination charges. The Countryman, the biggest model in Mini’s U.S. lineup, will arrive at U.S. dealerships in late December.

MINI has announced today that the “new MINI Countryman World Rally Car has successfully completed its shakedown phase at Prodrive’s private proving ground in Warwickshire.” Mini said that the Mini Countryman World Rally Car completed the initial part of the car’s test and development with the engineering team driving the car over four days, primarily on tarmac, but also including several KMs on loose surfaces and Prodrive’s low grip facility. The prototype will now travel to Portugal for a week of testing on gravel.
