In order to commemorate their huge win at the 24hours Nurburgring race, BMW has a few things in store. But they’ve kicked things off with a nicely put together, albeit too short, of a video about the even, which highlights the end of the race when they seemed to have it. I have a feeling more behind the scenes videos and interviews will come out later on, but so far this is a good way to kick things off :)

The #25 BMW M3 GT2 driven by Jörg Müller, Augusto Farfus, Uwe Alzen and Pedro Lamy has won the Nürburgring 24 hour race!

In second place was the one and only Ferrari in the race, the #43 F430 GTC with Dominik Farnbacher, Allan Simonsen, Lehman Keen and Marco Seefried at the wheel. Crossing the line in third was the #97 Audi R8 LMS driven by Dennis Rostek, Luca Ludwig, Marc Bronzel and Markus Winkelhock.

Following the conclusion of its intense preparation programme, the focus for Team BMW Motorsport is now on this weekend’s 24-hour race at the Nürburgring (DE). BMW Motorsport Director, Mario Theissen, reveals the status of the team’s preparations, as well as the importance of GT racing for BMW, Team BMW Motorsport and its eight drivers.

Mr Theissen, how would you sum up Team BMW Motorsport’s preparations for the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring?

Mario Theissen: “We are right on schedule. The performance of the BMW M3 GT2 in the specification for the Nordschleife has been good right from the word go. Well it has been a LONG hiatus for BMW from the DTM series, in fact they havent raced since 1992. Many of us remember the fun times watching the hectic DTM series and BMWs have been very competitive in the series in the past. Luckily, in the wake of BMWs pull out from F1 whispers were flying around that BMW would turn its attention to the DTM series and now it seems to have come true.

What are BMWs plans? Well they are working with the governing ITR body to make sure their car is not only ready to go for the 2012 season but is a competitive car at that time.

Los Angeles – April 17, 2010… The BMW Rahal Letterman Racing Team M3 GT Coupes finished 3rd and 5th in Saturday’s American Le Mans at Long Beach event. In a 100-minute action-packed sprint slowed by three caution periods, BMW drivers Bill Auberlen and Tommy Milner brought the No. 92 M3 home in 3rd place with 65 laps completed, 5.4 seconds behind the GT class leader. Dirk Mϋller and Joey Hand finished the race with the No. 90 M3 in 5th position.

Auberlen and Mϋller started the race by setting an aggressive pace for BMW. They ran nose-to-tail and set the fastest BMW laps of the race. Auberlen made the team’s first scheduled stop and driver change at Lap 25.

We previously reported on the first E92 coupe Formula Drift car build by Michael Essa of Tech Trix Motorsports, powered by the BMW V10 from the E60 M5.
