Motortrend takes on a direct comparison of the BMW 1M coupe and 2011 BMW M3 on the backroads. What’s their conclusion? Here are some of their more notable reactions.
Tiff Needeell, one of the more respected TV automotive reviewers tests the 1M coupe in the hills of the Scottish countryside. How did the 1M perform according to Tiff?
Tiff seems ultra pleased with the 1M’s “great feel, the chassis, the revs of this lovely engine, the throttle response.” He points out some lag at 1500 RPM in 6th gear, but calls the acceleration at 4000 RPM in 3rd gear virtually instantaneous. As for handling, the 1M has great turn in and even with traction control off, it powers out of turns with the back end firmly planted.
Tiff’s conclusion? The 1 Series M Coupe is an enthusiast’s dream. No surprises with that conclusion.
Car Enthusiast drives the BMW 1M back-to-back against the Porsche Cayman R and comes in with their verdict – “the M is the one we’d take home.” How do they arrive at this conclusion? See analysis inside.
1Addicts member and future track instructor Dan Parker has taken delivery of his beautiful white 1M coupe. He provides his initial review of the 1M, as well as some great insight into how it compares to the E46 M3 and the Z4 M Coupe. Read the full review and see photos/video inside.
Another 1M review is in from Germany. AMS got their hands on a 1-series M Coupé, and we’ve translated the essential details from their review. In short, AMS considers the 1M one of the best sports cars available but found some drawbacks in daily use and under less than ideal conditions. They clocked an amazing 4.7 seconds for 0-62mph which is on par with the E9x M3 they’ve tested previously. Equally impressive, 0-124mph only took 16.6 seconds while returing an average of 18.2 mpg. AMS gave 4 stars out of 5. The firm ride, traction on wet roads and the steering they consider too heavy apparently avoided a 5-star-rating.
Car and Driver has the very first 1M vs. competition shootout, and the 1M emerged victorious over some formidable competition on some formidable grounds – versus the Audi TT RS and the Infiniti IPL G37 at the famed Tail of the Dragon roads. The 1M coupe was the “clear winner,” and described as neither a performance poseur nor a cynical styling exercise.
Autoblog has posted its first drive impressions of the 1-series M Coupe prototype from their test drive in Germany. Not much new info is divulged, but the general reaction is a positive one.
The fifth review from a 1addicts member who attended the BMW 1 series M coupe test drive event is in. This one features feedback from the perspective of an E46 M3 owner. Read on inside.
