The Megacity Vehicle (MCV), due to come onto the market in 2013 will soon be the world’s first volume-produced vehicle with a passenger cell made from carbon fiber. The weight savings will allow an offset of the extra 250 to 350 kg of weight typically found in electrically powered vehicles
Here is the first officially released stunning concept image of the upcoming Megacity vehicle, an all electric “city car.” The BMW Megacity is expected to enter production sometime in 2013. Pictured here is a 4 seater car powered by a rear mounted electric motor (running on batteries). To minimize weight, the Megacity vehicle will feature extensive use of carbon firber reinforced plastics.

BMW has announced that its all-electric “Megacity Vehicle” line will launc in 2013. This line of vehicles was designed from the ground up to be fully electric vehicles and will be significantly lighter than conventional cars with heavy use of carbon fiber. It will be a zero-emission urban car for the world’s metropolitan regions. It is currently being developed as part of project i and will be available from 2013 under a sub-brand of BMW.
BMW has finally announced some more news regarding its Megacity Vehicle (aka Isetta) being developed under its project i program. The BMW sub-brand Isetta will produce high efficiency electric vehicles and is expected to come to market by at least 2015. Here is the press release:

BMWs vision for the future of the megacity vehicle, dubbed Project-i (Isetta?) comes in the form of this 1-series coupe modified to run on electricity.
For the next major autoshow on schedule, the International Autoshow at Detroit, BMW will bring this car to follow-up the VisionED concept car.
BMW maintains its goals of combining the green energy push with its own motto of "sheer driving pleasure" or "joy". They have aimed to make this car fun to drive, with a good amount of torque and power.

AutoExpress UK provides some further insight into the revival of BMW’s mini-car, the Isetta. The publication speculates that the Isetta could appear in UK showrooms as early as 2011.

BMW is poised to give the go-ahead to a tiny Zero Emissions Vehicle (ZEV) that will help to revolutionise city-centre driving. The rear-engined city car could be called Isetta and will first arrive in American showrooms in 2012.
The project was created because of new Californian regulations (soon to be copied by 12 other US states) which require big car makers to sell between a few hundred and a few thousand ZEVs every year from 2012.
However, global sales of the new model are also likely, because BMW has decided that the concept will be ideal for sale in cities all around the world. Indeed, many European cities have already established low-emissions zones.
