We’ve heard rumblings in the past weeks that the F82 M4 coupe had begun its public testing rounds and our spies have now spotted it for the very first time!
The prototype wears the typical heavy camouflage of early stage mules, but there’s plenty to analyze. There’s little doubt this is the M version of the upcoming 4 Series coupe. There are the signature M quad exhausts, the flared fenders, signature blue M brakes, wide tires, and M6 steering wheel.

New photos of the mystery shrouded BMW model spotted at the BMW Museum shows that it is indeed a coupe shape, ruling out the possibility that it is the F80 M3 sedan. However, new info and clues provide some guidance on what it may be.
The car is confirmed to have quad exhausts, which confirms that it’s an M model. We can think of two upcoming M models expected in the next 2-3 years bearing the shape and size suggested by the photos – the F82 M4 Coupe and M6 Gran Coupe. The rear tires on this model give further clues. A mystery BMW model appeared at the BMW Museum a bit over a month ago, shrouded under a big blue tarp. It’s yet to be positively identified, but could this possibly be the next generation F80 M3 sedan or F82 M4 coupe?
There’s not much to go off of by way of the sparse photos, but the one part of the car that can be partially seen – the wheels, happen to match the wheels that have been spotted on the F80 M3 sedan prototypes from our spy photos.

Someone at BMW M HQ in Garching has been gabbing and has let on to Bimmerfile that the next generation 2014 F80 M3 may be getting electric power steering instead of the hydraulic power steering that M cars have always been equipped with (even with the latest M5 and M5).
Porsche’s new 911 991 is equipped with EPS which has been praised, which likely gives manufacturers such as BMW hope that a sporty EPS system can be developed for their most sporty cars – the M lineup.
We can finally confirm that the next generation M3 (F80 / F82) will be powered by an inline 6 cylinder engine. We spoke to the President of BMW North America, Mr. Ludwig Willisch, at the ongoing M6 convertible / 6 Gran Coupe US press launch and he has officially confirmed that the next generation M3′s engine will indeed feature an inline 6 layout and not a V6.
Until now, there has been no official confirmation (nor denial) from BMW on whether the F80 sedan and F82 coupe’s motor would feature an I6 or rumored V6 configuration (although it’s been all but a foregone conclusion that it will utilize forced induction by way of turbos).

And although we’ve previously rendered the F80, here is our take on what the next generation M3 may resemble now that the M6 has been revealed. Can you tell us about the changes to the 2013 M5 from the 2012 M5? Why the wait for the 2013 model year for the US market?
It’s nothing major. It’s small things; it’s electronics underneath, little computer things. It’s definitely not customer-facing changes and not a great deal of functionality change.

Lovely Spring days bring warmer weather but it also returns BMW prototypes to Nürburgring testing, and we’ve just spied on video the king of all current BMW prototypes – the much-anticipated [B]F80 M3 Sedan[/B]. Powered by an inline 6 or V6 displacing more than 3 litres good for roughly 450hp and featuring up to 3 turbos (with possible electric turbo), the new M3 is set to be better than its predecessor in any and every regard, as usual. BMW will again offer both a 6-speed manual and an (optional) 7-speed double clutch transmission for the M3.

After a few months of cold weather testing in the frozen climate of Sweden, the 2014 M3 F80 sedan has returned to further honing where it most belongs and excels – on the Nurburgring track. As we approach the warmer months we should begin to see it undergo hot weather testing where it will hopefully shed some more camouflage for the sake of adequate cooling.
In this sighting, we get some good close looks at the F80 M3 kidney grilles which we’ve pointed out before as being sleeker/sportier than that on the F30 3 Series. The production side view mirrors (which also be sportier in shape) have not yet been installed on any prototypes.
