Update: This image has been confirmed as a render based on a real BMW image, so we are essentially seeing the real new look of the 1-series. Autobild leaks the new BMW 1er Sporthatch. This photo certainly looks like the real deal, especially comparing to the spyshots and everything we know about the car, I believe this to be real!!

We’ve caught the new upcoming 2012 1-Series hatch every which way imaginable, but now the car has finished its winter testing and entered Nurburgring testing. This is a critical point on the path for any BMW towards production. In fact, the new 5-door hatch is rumored to be revealed online this spring, 2011, with its first public showing at the Frankfurt autoshow this fall, so I’m sure things are in high gear with the 1-Series development team.

This particular vehicle is the 5-door hatchback variant, which is the basis model of the 1-Series, and just as in the previous generation vehicle, this model will not make its way onto US shores. However, this car will serve as the basis for the entire 1-series lineup, with a 3-door … CONTINUED

The release of the new (non-US market) 1-Series Hatchback is imminent– but that isn’t stopping BMW from doing the final testing of the partially camoflaged test bed. Gmotors.tv has snagged this video of the car testing in Munich.

The F20 1-series continues its testing rounds, spied for the first time in silver color and the new wheels style in these photos. Not much remains for the imagination, except perhaps the front headlights, which, like all previous F20 prototypes sports camouflage taped in a manner to trick the eyes into thinking they are larger than actuality. The yellow camouflage tape on the side mirrors conceal integrated side view mirror turn signals (close-ups here), the first of its kind on a BMW.

The all new 1-Series hatchback (a car not likely to come to the USA) is expected to make its World Premiere at the Frankfurt Autoshow in September (see http://www.bimmerpost.com/future-bmw/).

And in usual BMW fashion, the Coupe body style (F22) should arrive roughly 1 year later, … CONTINUED

It seems the guys over at BimmerFile were invited to Munich to tour BMW AG and got to see and sit inside a few examples of the F20. They weren’t able to take photos, but did offer their insight into the car. They say:

“… the interior is getting a significant upgrade in quality of materials. The new look will be much closer to the X3, 5 and 7 series interior design and layout. In fact every F20 I saw the dash of had at least a small screen a la the X3.”

“Outside the shape is much more handsome than the previous 1er hatch. The three door especially has a great shape do it with the higher belt line making it feel slightly more coupe like.”

“… the … CONTINUED

These are the best close-up photos of the F20 1-series 5-door hatchback yet! Everything can be seen clearly – from the front bumper design, the more upright front fascia and grilles, to the camouflaged headlights purposely taped to trick the eyes into thinking they are larger, and the rear lights powered by LED light bars. A closeup of the side view mirrors confirms that the next gen 1-series will be the first BMWs with integrated side view mirror turn signals.

This particular model is a 2.0 diesel (indicated by the N47D20 motor designation on the dash label) auto start-stop engine technology, paired with an 8 speed auto transmission, and appears to be an FEP prototype (final evaluation phase).

What’s most interesting about these photos is the interior, which … CONTINUED

This is the first time the F20 has been captured on video in this more advanced camouflage stage. We’ve already posted many photos, but seeing the car in motion always gives a more lifelike perspective.

The F20 1-series hatchback is expected to make its world premiere at the Frankfurt Autoshow in September (see: http://www.bimmerpost.com/future-bmw/).

In usual BMW fashion, the Coupe body style should arrive roughly 1 Year later, and would be expected as a 2013 model. BMW M will also have its hands at the new 1-Series and an M version should arrive 2 Years after the arrival of the hatchback this year. Rumors have been afloat as to whether the next generation 1-Series Coupe would indeed be spun off as its own series, presumably the 2-Series, … CONTINUED

It appears that the next generation 1-series (F20) will be the first BMW to feature integrated side view mirror lights. We first suspected this when the F20′s latest stage of camouflage was first spied. Here was the circumstantial evidence:

* BMW test mules often have the orange tape/stripe on its side view mirrors, as camouflage/decoy. However, this decoy tape has always been removed once the heavy camouflage on the car’s lights are removed. With the F20, the heavy camouflage on the test mules’ lights have already been removed, but the orange decoy tape remains to serve as camouflage.
* The orange mirror tape has perforations (see F20 photo below), which has never been seen on the mirror camouflage previously. … CONTINUED

BMW continues winter testing of the F20 1-series 5-door hatchback. This is the first time we see a black model with less camouflage, showing its sculpted hood and showing premium wheels for the first time. The hood provides us an advance preview of the styling language we should expect to see on the next generation 1-Series and 3-Series.

From the first look, this is the most sculpted hood ever seen on a 1-Series (not hard with only 1 Generation), or even a 3-Series for that matter, and takes a tangential design direction from the F01 7-Series, F10 5-Series and even F25 X3 hood design. A new central column is now raised (whereas it is sunken by sharp lines on the F10), giving a very very sporty effect … CONTINUED
