Alpina has a larger than usual display at the ongoing 2013 Frankfurt IAA show where they brought out many of their many models, including the just announced Alpina D3, the XD3, B3 and B6.
The new BMW ALPINA D3 Bi-Turbo sets entirely new standards of performance and efficiency in its segment – all in the familiar, harmonious ALPINA style.
The numbers 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 summarise the key data of the new D3 Bi-Turbo like pearls on a chain: Vmax 278 km/h, 350 bhp, 4.6 s from 0-100 km/h, 5.3 l/100 km (139 g/km CO2), EU6, 700 Nm.
The first D3 to come out of Buchloe appeared in 2005 as a turbocharged, 2-litre in-line four cylinder model, and delivered a number of surprises – it was not the first diesel to wear the ALPINA badge, but it was unusual for ALPINA not to lead the performance table and instead go with an engine that albeit extremely economical had … CONTINUED
Alpina has released the first details of its 2014 Alpina D3 Bi-Turbo, which will join the B3 Bi-Turbo as the newest F3x based Alpina offering. The D3 is set to make its debut at the 2013 Frankfurt IAA show beginning next week.
For the 2014 D3, Alpina utilizes the same powerplant which powers the XD3 and D5 – an inline six-cylinder twin turbo motor. It outpouts 345 HP (257kw) and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) torque. 0-62mph (100kmh) can be covered by the D3 in 4.6 seconds, with a top speed of 173 MPH (278kmh).
As for efficiency – the D3 will sip diesel fuel at a rate of 44.3 MPG U.S. (53.3 MPG UK / 5.3 Liters per 100km).
The D3 will come in both RWD and AWD … CONTINUED
The Alpina F30 B3 has started development and we’ve got the first sighting of the prototype. The B3 test mule (based on the F30 335i) provides a good preview of the external styling to expect on the F30 B3, with its Alpina front lip spoiler, aggressive trunk spoiler, quad exhaust, and of course Alpina wheels. It appears that Alpina has now changed the front lip spoiler design from its original preview render. The production version is likely to feature a special exterior color as in past Alpina models.
The F30 B3 will be powered by a highly massaged (by Alpina) N55 engine which should output more than the 400HP from the current B3 S’s N54 engine. It will be offered in automatic transmission only. Expect a top … CONTINUED
Alpina has released a preview render of the F30 Alpina B3. Expect it to debut at next year’s Geneva show in March 2013 and to be powered by same N55 engine which powers the current B3 S, but massaged by Alpina to an even higher output than the current B3 S which has 400HP.
Resident photochopper Harold Wood imagines the BMW F30 Alpina D3 Bi Turbo sedan. The current B3 S Bi-Turbo yields 294kW (400hp) at 6000rpm with a maximum torque of 540Nm (397lbs-ft) at 4500rpm.
