Anyone wanting a RWD X1 should look into buying a current generation X1, if a new report coming out of Autocar is true.

It’s being reported that the current model’s RWD / AWD platform (adopted from the E9X 3 series) will be replaced by the FWD / AWD UKL platform when the next gen BMW X1 hits the market around 2015. “UKL” is German for ‘Unter Klasse’ or ‘entry level.’

The 2013 BMW X1 has been announced for the US market and is making its US premiere at the 2012 NYIAS currently underway.

The X1 arrives in dealerships in the Fall in three models:

sDrive28i (240hp, RWD, starts at $31,545)
xDrive28i (240hp, AWD, starts at $33,245)
xDrive35i (300hp, AWD, starts at $39,345)

The 28i models receive an 8 speed automatic transmission and the xDrive35i uses an 6 speed auto transmission.

Following BMW’s announcement yesterday, here’s full information on the M-Sport Package for the BMW X1. As you can see from the pictures, most prominent feature is the M aerodynamics package including M door sills and High Gloss Shadow Line. The M-Sport Pack for the X1 features 17-inch double spoke M alloy wheels standard with 18-inch double spoke M alloy wheels (shown here) being available as option.
