The “0 Prototype” featured and teased prominently in the recent Plan 0 video (a look into BMW’s secret prototyping process) is likely to be the future BMW X4 SAV, which will take on the coupe SAV look of a baby X6, albeit in smaller form. Evidence comes via Scott26′s words, the presence of personnel from the Spartanburg plant (where X models are produced), and close resemblance to speculative X4 renders.

Here is an fascinating look into BMW’s Research and Innovation Center and the prototyping/design process of the first prototypes of each BMW model, each built by hand. Especially cool is the look into a “0 Vehicle,” a prototype milled out of a solid block of aluminum to help ensure the highest quality standards. Its purpose is to check that every single body part fits the body exactly to spec. There’s also some insight into the camouflaging process.
Any guesses as to which 0 Vehicle is … CONTINUED

BMW conducts both extreme cold and extreme heat testing of all its prototype vehicles as part of each model’s development process. A lot of the extreme heat testing is performed in US’ infamous Death Valley, which regularly reaches 120-130F in the summer (with a record of 134F in 1913, the second hottest temperature ever recorded). In this video, BMW test engineers speak a bit about the extreme heat testing process, as well as what the experience is like.
