I know the sheet says 2008, but those bearings look like 2010+ and later. I have a feeling the bearings were already replaced with WPC treated 702/703 bearings. Any chance you can look at the backs of the bearings and see what logo is on it? Then match the logo to either of these two images:

2. http://wiki.rcollins.org/core/index...._Description_2

A tiny fraction is still too many for me!

The shop is Southwest Bimmers, Las Vegas.

It makes sense a labor warranty to be offered, but I'm not sure, in case that something fudges up, a failed part can be distinguished from bad labor.

Here they are at 53k miles. I think they look OK(?), except maybe the copper showing towards the edges on some of them. The bearings are not in particular order.

Also, the car feels so much better with the new motor mounts.

Those look similar to mine which were pulled out last winter.. not particularly good and definitely a wise move getting them swapped

Always Castrol TWS 10W-60, 5k mile intervals, proper warm up; replaced as preventative; had another 50k miles on them?

I changed my bearings in my home garage. And then another forum member asked me to help him change his in my home garage. SYT Shadow has done a bunch, and does not have a mechanic license, and wrote a helpful DIY guide.

Rod bearing service performed yesterday with the amazing help of SYT_Shadow and his brother (who can self identify should he wish).

Additional shout out to Gearhead Systems International in Warwick, RI. Its an amazing DIY shop where you rent a lift by the hour and have access to a wealth of tools and the knowledge of the owner. If you are in the area and have work to do, they deserve your business. Great atmosphere, great owners, and great pizza shop nearby that will deliver on your lunch break.

2009 M3 with 52,045 miles.
Replaced with BE Bearings and BE-ARP bolts.
Engine appeared to be well cared for after we dropped the pan.
#6 Upper was the only bearing showing wear through to the copper layer. I am very happy that I elected to do these for peace of mind and very grateful for the help of SYT_Shadow and his brother.

We also changed out motors mounts and diff oil/plugs while we were at it.

^^ This is what I imagine mine will look like at 132k miles. Ordered the BE Bearing Kit and it should be here in the next two weeks.

Where are people getting these pre-made sheets with the layout to place the old bearings?

Please do. I live in south philly and VAC is my local shop, but a LOT of the feedback on them has been negative, or at least mixed. One of their ex-employees was very positive on their bearings and overall work, but I'm not convinced that it's not worth it just to go up to Auto Coutoure and have them do BE bearings, rod bolts, and motor mounts for $2650 or whatever. Curious what the results are...
Or go to Bavarian Specialities in K of P. They did the BE Bearings plus engine mounts in my MY2012 last year. Great shop.

Those look pretty good for the early bearings — as bearing go for these cars — just starting to wear through the layers on the uppers. What year and how many miles?
