3DM Ohlins "TrackDay" Coilovers
Decided to post on here since Barry has been busy dealing with personal issues. Hope all is well for him.
Can anyone with the 3DM Ohlins "TrackDay" coilovers verify if this version comes with the honey comb style front springs or the uniform diameter type? Unfortunately, the photos on the site do not show the springs that are used in this kit. This kit does run stiffer springs front and rear relative to the traditional off the shelf Ohlins Road and Track and wanted to verify the spring type for wheel/tire fitment. I would prefer not to run a 5mm spacer up front. Just wanted to clarify that the kit I am looking at is not the "dedicated track" kit. That one has been confirmed to run the uniform diameter type spring up front. |

They are linear springs, either 60mm or 2.5" ID, not sure exactly on the ID.
But they are definately not stock like springs like the R&T kit comes with.

Just to add some clarification, "linear" typically is used to describe the spring's rate and not the shape of the spring's ID from top to bottom. This can confuse the conversation at times.
The standard R&T spring for the front of the E9X M3 system has a 65mm ID at it's base and a OE diameter at the top interface with the OE mount. It is 60 N/mm in linear spring rate. In other words, it requires 60 N of force to compress the spring 1mm and will require an additional 60 N of force to compress each additional mm of travel throughout the springs motion. The spring Barry uses when altering the system to be more track focused is also a "linear" rate spring and has a constant 65mm ID from top to bottom of it's "flat ground race spring" variety. I hope this adds some clarity. |
