Insideline reports that there is no BMW M1 coming. This comes after the nonappearance of the M1 concept at the 2010 Geneva Motorshow, at which it was expected. Instead there will be a hopped up 135is version of the 1-series. But, BMW insider Scott26 maintains that the M1 is coming. Who really knows? Nobody but Rumplestiltskin!
Certainly BMW shows this car off soon, until then the photoshoppers will fill the void and give us wonderful takes on what the car could look like. Here is one based on the few leaked details we know about this car thus far.
What you are seeing here is the clearest teaser yet of the BMW M1 concept which is widely speculated to be making its debut at the 2010 Geneva auto show in just over a week’s time. Wide rear fenders appear on the M1 concept, as well what could be a vent or diffuser behind the rear fenders.

Here you see a rendering of the upcoming BMW M1 from Autozeitung magazine. According to BMW marketing insider Scott26, “The look is very close to the aerodynamic pack that adorns the M1″ (minus the metallic crossbars). The magazine also mentions that the M1 will go on sale in Summer 2011, with 355 bhp, 0-60 mph under 5 seconds, and M3 suspension!

Car Magazine has published pictures of the M1 undergoing cold weather testing in Scandinavia. While the guys at Car Magazine are assuming that this is a mule for the next gen 1-series coupe (F2x), its safe to say this actually is an M1 prototype. Why? Autocar reports that the BMW M1 has been green lighted! Sales will begin mid-2011 and it will be powered by a turbocharged straight six motor estimated to produce around 350hp.
