BMW looks to be expanding its eDrive plug-in hybrid offerings, with a 3 Series plug-in hybrid model now spied in testing. The X5 eDrive plug-in hybrid has already been testing since last year.

This prototype wears an obvious ‘Hybrid Test Vehicle’ sticker, but also shows a second fuel cap cover on the front left fender, covering the electric socket for charging.

As for specs? It’s likely to use the same engine and technologies from the X5 eDrive, which features a turbo 4 cylinder engine outputting 171hp, paired with an electric motor providing 95 more horsepower.

The X5 eDrive travels up to 70 MPH (120kmh) on electric power alone and has a maximum range of 19 miles (30km) on electric power alone. Acceleration from 0-62 MPH takes under … CONTINUED

An M3POST member recently took his frozen red M3 to BMW M headquarters in Garching, Germany for some photos, but stumbled upon something curious.

This is what looks to be a 3 Series GT body-in-white on the grounds at BMW M. Is BMW M up to something with the newest 3 Series variant?!

Here are the first fully revealed 2013 BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo (GT) cars! These two 3 Series GT models, in two different trims, were just spied during a BMW video shoot.

The 3 Series GT shares a similar front fascia look to the F30 3 series sedan, and a tail end which, although still a bit ungainly, is somewhat sportier than that on the 5 Series GT. Although the 3 Series GT (F34) shares a similar front end to the 3 Series sedan, design which it shares with the upcoming 4 Series Coupe is the front fender vent, which was recently spied on a production 4 Series Coupe (F32) model. The different finishes on the fender vents show us the vents on the F32 4 … CONTINUED

It’s been months since we last spied the 2014 4 Series (F32) Coupe, but here it is, in production form and nearly fully uncovered! What we see is a sleek sports coupe version of the F30 sedan which resembles a smaller 6 Series. And yes, we are now certain that it will come to market as the “4 Series.”

BODY

Compared to the current E92 3 Series coupe, the F32 features a sleeker roofline with a more fastback shaped tail end (though not nearly as dramatic as something like the Audi A7). The rear quarter windows have been elongated and end beautifully a more angular and sleeker hofmeister kink. See the comparison photo below between the F32 and E92 side profiles.

The most prominent styling embellishment visible so … CONTINUED

The F30 Alpina B3 continues testing and we’ve spotted it at the Nurburgring (spied at BMW’s Nurburgring test center).

The F30 B3 test mules (based on the F30 335i) we’ve seen so far provide a good preview of the external styling to expect on the F30 B3, with its Alpina front lip spoiler, aggressive trunk spoiler, quad exhaust, and of course Alpina wheels. It appears that Alpina has now changed the front lip spoiler design from its original preview render. The production version is likely to feature a special exterior color as in past Alpina models.

The F30 B3 will be powered by a highly massaged (by Alpina) N55 engine which should output more than the 400HP from the current B3 S’s N54 engine. It will be … CONTINUED

We bring you the first ever look at the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe prototype in live action – from a recent test session on the Nurburgring track.

This is the first we’ve seen of the prototype on the Ring, as well as being fitted with M Sport Brakes.

As always, don’t worry about the headlights and tail lights of the prototypes at this stage of testing. They are merely fakes for testing purposes. Expect the 4GC to share the lights with the rest of the upcoming 4 Series lineup.

Codenamed as the F36, the 4 Series Gran Coupe will be positioned and priced in the 3/4 Series lineup just as the 6 Series Gran Coupe is positioned in the 5/6 Series lineup (in between the coupe and convertible … CONTINUED

We have recently spied the F36 4 Series Gran Coupe (4GC) out testing again and although it wears the same camouflage as before, we get a first look at the F36 against the F30 3 series sedan and the F34 3 Series GT (gran touring).

What’s clearly confirmed by the photos is the expected difference in roofline heights and shapes between the different models, which mirror the differences between the 6 series gran coupe, 5 series sedan and 5 series GT. The 4GC features the lowest and sleekest roofline, followed by the slightly taller F30 sedan, and then the GT. The 4GC will also add some centimeters in its overall length compared to the F30 sedan.

Codenamed as the F36, the 4 Series Gran Coupe will top the … CONTINUED
