It isn’t often that an automobile manufacturer gets to launch an entirely new vehicle segment, but that’s exactly what BMW did in 1999 when it introduced the world’s first Sports Activity Vehicle – the BMW X5. Two generations and some 1.3 million vehicles later, the BMW X5 is set to enter its third generation. Two F15 X5s were just spotted during transportation in a cargo plane and while their exteriors remain camouflaged (previously revealed exterior photos below), we get some nice clear looks at their interiors.

As seen in previous spy shots, the F15 X5′s features a multi-layered dashboard design look and is both more driver-centric and upright compared to the current X5′s dashboard.

You can see the black panel display gauges, large free-standing navigation/infotainment LCD screen and new iDrive Touch system.

The US will receive the following models in the first model year: sDrive35i, xDrive35i, xDrive35d, xDrive50i. All of these models will begin production in August 2013, except the xDrive35d which begins production in December 2013. The European models are listed here. We’ve gotten another look at the F15 X5′s interior and it provides the best idea yet of what it will look like once revealed.

Interior / Wheels

The F15 X5′s general dashboard design takes after the F30 3 Series with a multi-layered look. Compared to the current X5 (E70), the next X5′s dashboard has also become more driver-centric, a design element seen in recent new BMW models. It will also be more upright compared to the current X5′s dashboard, which angles and curves away sharply from the driver and passenger. See a comparison image below.

BMW insider Scott26 shares some details on the current product plans and studies being undertaken at BMW for potential new X models – namely potential X2, X4 M, X7, X8 and a new Sport Activity Sedan niche.

X marks the Sport.

The following relates to ideas under discussion and evaluation. Whereas some concepts show promise to production reality. Some show discussions and conception in regards to market and growth projections.

It is not a question of just product planning but a reaction to growth in the segment. The SUV segment whether in city , compact , entry , mid , large or luxury continue to grow and grow.

US BMW dealers are receiving order guides for the upcoming 2014 BMW X5 (F15), along with a special order form to order their first demo cars. The order guides reveal the lines, options and packages that will be available on the F15 X5.

Images of the production model were already leaked last month (copied below) and it showed the latest in BMW styling and design elements, including headlights which connect to the kidney grilles, air curtain technology in the bumper and functional front fender vents. Other technologies expected to debut on the F15 X5 include a pedestrian airbag system and the iDrive Touch Controller System.
