Frozen Matte Gray and Frozen Matte Black paint options were made available to European customers beginning this past March for the F10 5 series, which represents the first time that BMW has offered the matte paint option for non-M cars. It is an option only for F10/F11 M-sport packaged cars. As these photos show, the matte finish looks great on the F10, but it doesn’t come cheap. The matte gray and matte black options cost over 3,000 euros.

In order to offer drivers comfortable and safe vehicles in the future, equipped with the most modern assistance systems available, the engineers at BMW Group Research and Technology have been working for many years on the development of electronic co-pilots to support automated driving in specific situations – for example the BMW TrackTrainer tested on the race track, as well as adaptive cruise control (ACC) and the Emergency Stop Assistant. Even the most efficient internal combustion engine can only convert about one-third of the energy derived from fossil fuels into the mechanical kinetic energy needed to power a motor vehicle. Over the past few years BMW EfficientDynamics has made great improvements in engine efficiency, for example with technologies such as direct fuel injection, variable valve timing, exhaust-driven turbochargers, brake energy regeneration and the Auto Start Stop function. However, about 60 percent of the generated energy is still lost, half of it being exhaust heat, with the … CONTINUED

BMW is reportedly considering bringing the F11 5-series touring / wagon to the U.S. for the first time after disappointing sales from the 5-series GT. While no final decision has yet been made, we are excited by the prospect of seeing the F11 on U.S. shores. In our opinion, it’s one of BMW’s most attractive wagons ever built.
Another episode from the BMW future lab. It’s about pedestrian security. Most accidents involving pedestrians happen in inner cities at speeds of about 60 km/h. In these situations, a “Camera-based Pedestrian Protection” system can be useful. This video gives some insight into the development of this camera based protection system.
A new BMW brake pad package shows the appearance of a new model – “M550dX”. This new F10 model could feature the long rumored tri-turbo diesel engine. According to Scott26 (quoted below), it’s going to be an all new engine and will be available on all BMW models in the upper segments by next year.
It’s not an F10 M5 with a diesel motor as some claim, but will be a stand-alone F10 model like the M5 (maybe with M badge?). It will have its own … CONTINUED
